I mostly see kindles around and iphones and android phones. I see anoccasional iPad here and there but never see other tablets. I have an asus transformer but will probably only take to the beach for reading. My girlfriend who is 50 just bought a nook color today so i will root it and we canshare kindle books.

I don't see tablets around too often... the only place where I have is the airport and maybe a Starbucks.

My friend originally had a Blackberry for work and he told me a month or so ago that they gave him an iPhone instead. I thought that was kind of interesting.

At work only two people have iPads and only one, my brother, brings in his iPad to work.

I've seen one iPad on the "bus". Woman in 40s or 50s was reading I think. On the subway, I've seen lots of e-readers. Mostly Sony or some other cheaper brand.

I've been seeing a Playbook around every few days. It's mine:). Wifi antenna sucks compared to my laptop, so I've found it more useful as a PDF/document reader with wi-fi off on the go.

You may be seeing few (-er?) tablets in the general public because people may be afraid of getting mugged. No data plan or phone company attached.

I see middle aged women with nook colors all the time.

There is actual data behind that:

According to the New York Times, the sale of women's magazines on the Nook are far exceeding sales on the iPad.....It seems that women might prefer ereaders in general. The Times cites a Forrester Research study that says 56 percent of tablet owners are men while 55 percent of ereader owners are women. Additionally, women tend to be heavier readers, buying about three times the number of books that men do, research from Bowker shows.

I've seen tons on campus and in coffee shops, airports too. I saw a Xoom the other day, was the first time I've seen an Android tablet "in the wild".

Maybe because you wish you had one?

Just bought one a few hours ago! White Verizon 16GB. I was going to get the MBA, but after playing with it, I was super unimpressed.

I was going to get the ATT version, but Verizon had a better "low" end plan for me.

It's going back. I just unboxed it, and it has a green stuck pixel on the top, where it is always visible when I browse the web or go through apps.

I am extremely disappointed. I don't want it at all.

Took the subway the other day and saw someone with their iPad in the open, playing tiny wings.

I don't know why, but I thought that was douchey. Dunno why.

Because nobody whips out an iPad to spontaneously play a retarded little cell phone game in the middle of their lunch.

Browsing the web or forums or going over a spreadsheet or something isn't anything unusual and would be quite normal. But when an adult pretends to spontaneously and suddenly need to play some stupid little "Flash tic tac toe" quality game that you don't even care about, in the middle of a populated area, you're just looking for attention and a way to show off your trendy gadgets.

I remember a time I was on a plane checking my hotel info and rental reservations on my Droid X. Dude next to me had to pull out his iPad right then and there and play some retarded game for less than two minutes before he got bored and put it away again. I wasn't sure if I should /facepalm or /eyeroll, it was pathetic.

Which is more pathetic? Someone using an iPad in public or someone thinking that person is using their iPad because of someone else?

lolol, not Subway the sandwich chain - the NYC Subway, as in D train at 10:30 in the morning. lol

It just looked douchey seeing someone whip out an iPad when everyone else was tapping away on their cell phones.

I see this all the time at the airport. Someone will whip out an iPad, play a dinky little game for a couple minutes, and put it away again. Occasionally I see people do something truly revolutionary with an iPad, like check their email or watch a movie.

Well, I can tell you I'm not pulling out my iPad to read during lunch anymore, I'm scared someone's going to think I'm "douchey".

Actually using it isn't douchey.

A 30 yr old pulling it out to play punch the monkey for 30 seconds at a time and scrolling the same web page up and down and flipping back and forth to the app tray for several minutes and not really doing anything isn't actually using it. He is just being a douche and looking for an excuse to pull it out and show it off.

I haven't taken my iPad out of the house yet. I probably will this weekend because we going to stay @ the beach, but it still probably won't be in "public"

I saw someone with an iPad on MetroNorth, this couple had to keep swapping back and forth the iPad because their arms got tired of holding it up. Thought it was kinda lulz.

Some people just need to exercise a little.

1st Gen? I noticed the first gen is pretty heavy compared the the 2. The 2 is almost too light, and very hard to keep grip on.

You sure paid a lot of attention to a douche...

In a perfectly non douche world, we'd all have clamshell phones that call and have no brands. No text. But for some reason we all need iPods, iPhones, drive bimmers, Android phones just not to be iPhone owners, etc., etc., etc. Welcome to the real world where people are insecure and, conscious or not, care what other people think about them.

I never see people using tablet's in public, but then I'm never on the bus, in an airport, or at a coffee shop (places where they would be more useful). I see lots of people with iPhones, and Android Phones though. The tablet just isn't a form factor that can really be carried around everywhere.

Not sure, I didn't really pay much attention, other than the fact that I thought it was amusing.

i dont know about you, but my android phone is a pretty damn practical tool. it syncs email, calendars, contacts, chat logs, one note notebooks...and acts as a gps, wifi analyzer, music player, and web browser.

id sell my laptop because i almost never pull it out anymore. i just have a feeling that as soon as i did ill wish i hadnt (i have a thin and light timelineX) but since i got the phone i do light stuff on the phone and save productivity for my desktop

I bought one of those carbon peel and stick skins for the back of mine, makes it really grippy now.

The iPad is very practical too. Its image is ruined by the douches who have to play punch the monkey for 30 seconds just so they have an excuse to pull it out in front of everyone.
