i don't see anything wrong with a company using others ideas, if it gives consumers more of what they want, then its win.
I wish MS would use more ideas from Apple and Linux community myself. especially when it comes to building OS's.

If you're rooted, just drop those in the appropriate /system/media folder... ;)

You guys advocating .nomedia files keep missing the point. ANDROID SYSTEM WILL IGNORE THEM, AND I CAN'T USE MY RINGTONES IN THOSE FOLDERS.

I don't use .nomedia files (never heard of them until this thread) I also don't have an problems with junk turning up in my music apps.

Does this not happen with sense phones?

No, you missed the point of my suggestion. Notice how even on the stupid music apps the default ringtones don't appear in the music list? So just stick your ringtones and notifications in the same folders the system default ones go. It's easy with root and Root Explorer.

I would just like to apologize for thread crapping on page 8 of a thread that was crapped starting all the way back on page 1.

If you want to be technical, technically iOS5 is taking features or copying them from BB, WP7, and Android.

Technically, Apple takes the best of each platform and then puts its own twist on it. It's called innovation. Everyone does this, yeah Apple has an attitude about it, but everyone complains both ways.

I think the difference is that when the iPad first came out, many analysts/manufacturers though it was a DOA product and now everyone is jumping into the bandwagon.

iOS notifications always sucked and everyone I ever spoke to about this agreed with me. I am really happy that they copied the notifications from Android, that's one thing that I love on Android.

LOL, so you showed 1 example of an Android phone and thats suppose to represent all Android phones.
Why are you even bother to dispute that Android phones have notoriously bad battery life ?? Its a known fact.
I'm using a Vibrant now that rooted with a custom ROM and battery life is still bad.
I just got back from a 14hr road trip and I ran through 3 batteries.(still wasn't enough.)

LOL at people who thinks I'm actually BSing about my experience.
Unlike most of you(yes most of you), I have used many different phone on a regular basis.
NO, not the "well, I borrowed my friends phone and its this and that".
I've actually used them on a regular real life basis.
Android phones I've used on a "regular basis". Capivate, G2, Vibrant and a week of EVO.
Notorious bad battery life compared to the IP4.
Sure I can go a full day on everyone of those phones but that involves constant turning stuff off and various battery saving techniques.
With the IP4, I never had to worry when I need to turn on wifi, gps, data, brightness, no battery saving apps.

Oh and heres a pic of my Vibrant and 3 batteries.
I had the Vibrant on gps(which crapped on me most of the time) and small web browsing when I was in 3G areas.
50% brightness and it was not constantly on.

For those bashing Apple, what's the point? Should they have come up with some new innovative way to do something that is already done very well in Android? I'm sure there may be some other way to do it that works just as well, in fact I remember liking the notifications on my Palm Pre, but had they gone that route it would have been a copy of Web OS.

There is no point in reinventing the wheel every time on every feature. Sometimes it's just better to recognize the competition got it right and adapt.
