I bought one of the Ionic Pro's, basically a generic Ionic Breeze from Fry's electronics. I've had it around 6-7 month's and I have noticed a great improvement in air quality & not hearing my kids' coughing all the time. As well as myself.

I can't comment on the Sharper Image version. But this one has made a marked difference in the air quality of my home.

Just my 2 cents.

Of course it does, you paid money so it would. Money is a great way to get results. 😉

OooK....Of course I paid money for it. The Air Cleaner Fairy neglected to drop one off at my house as expected?

Ok, so for the past few years comsumer reports has said the ionic breeze is a horrible invention, it doesn't work as an air filter, but instead turns air into O3 making it Ozone, something thats bad to breath in. I sa in a commercial today, that now Ionic Breeze now comes with a Ozone remover, so now its even worse. Now your machine doesn't actually do anything,it doesn't even create ozone anymore, its a $400 under powered fan. Its absolutely STUPID!

Edited: Was angry when posting.

there's something in ionic breezes that caused cancer in lab rats. i don't remember where i read this. did anyone else read/hear about this?

edit: then again, anything can cause cancer

The cheapest filter you can make that is actually effective is simple.

Get 10$ box fan.
Get a very good high allergen hepa 20 inch filter for a furnace (about 12$)
Get ducktape

The 20 inch filter will fit exactly over the back of the box fan.

Duck tape it on to create an air seal so that all air will pass through the filter.

Instant sub 30$ air filter

I do this, leave the fan running in a spare room, or somewhere out of sight and sound on high. A 20 inch box fan can circulate a huge amount of air. The filters tend to clog after about 2 months - but it is absolutely stuff with dust and particles - so it seems to be quite effective. Helps my allergies for sure.
can't believe I've never thought of that.

We have a dirt road about 50 yards or so from our house... I'll be eternally grateful for that suggestion.

Noob -- If you believe everything you read, then you're an idiot. Hence you.

I bought one and I liked it so much that I bought two. I haven't been able to pry the second one out of my parents hands; unless I buy them another one.

I know othe people that own them and they like them as well.

Before my parents took mine, the bought Consumer Report's most recommended model. My father says he can't tell the difference, other than the "recommended" on is more expensive, noisy and huge. He wouldn't use that one, but he paid for it so he put it in his living room. The IB is in his bedroom.

If you don't like the IB, don't buy it. Don't act like you know anything about it until you buy one.

WOW, a post from someone who's actually used one. What a concept.

People that live their lives by what Consumer Reports says are no better than people who believe what the idiots at Best Buy tell them they need on a computer.

Learn to think for yourselves people. Use one and see how much crap it reomves from the air. And learn about ozone and how it really works. THen post and you might not make yourself look like a total ass.

Ditto. I bought one and liked it so much, I bought a second one. One with the UV light.

Mind you... I bought refurbs so they cost half as much, but they still work just as well.

You have to keep in mind that Consumer Reports likes Huffy bicycles because they're "affordable," Ok? Keep that in percpective.

My ionic breezes pick up enough dust where I have to clean the grids each week. But they're not fans, people. If I wanted a fan, I'd get a fan. They make no noise, move little air, but they do clean the air. And I personally like the O3 smell. Reminds me of my mom's old sewing machine. 😀

"Everything at Sharper Image is a rip off?"

I guess if you're not looking to buy what they're selling, it would be a rip off.

Impulse buyer are we?

I have a few things around the house that I've bought at Sharper Image. I bought a shower CD player that has an AM/FM tuner and plays TV station audio as well as MP3 and WAV files. Couldn't beat the price on it ANYWHERE else. Sure, you can get an AM/FM/CD, but this one plays MP3's AND I can listen to the TV in the shower! 😀

And if you look at their noise cancelling headphones, you'll find they work as well as others and are way cheaper than Sony or Bose. I even bought a Tiger desktop game called Bulls-Eye Ball at Sharper Image. It was $2 cheaper there then it was at Target! (Ok. I admit, it was an impulse buy.)
