Here's the best value room air purifier, it was also highly rated by consumer reports:

$130 to change filters...

who told you that ? CR specifically mentions it has low operating costs. Maybe the Ionic breeze has almost no operating costs but it also does close to nothing

you should see the filter in mine after a week or more. Its just as dirty as the regular AIR suck and blow filters.

who says they hardly do anything ?

believe it or not, the sharper image has a huge store on ebay that usually sells reconditioned items at prices of up to 90% off retail. for example, this ionic freshener is going for $11.95 ($17.95 buy it now fee).

i recently purchased a radio for $19.95 that retails for $99 on the shaper image site.

Straight off the Whirlpool web site!

Consumer's report is correct in RE: the Quadra by Sharper Image - junque. Also, it is overpriced by about $300. It works - after a fashion - but is not very effective.

Also, on the Whirlpool, they do not have an "electrostatic precipitator" action like the Ionic Breeze, feeble though it is.

Edited to correct URL as I did not notice the https:
Also if you change filters, you have to also order the $29.95 pre-filter set, making the total $130 like I said.

RideFree thanks for posting the link to your paypal account, I guess you want us to pay you or something ?

Here's a quote from epinion review about the operating costs of the whirlpool:

"The Whirlpool Whispure line simply pull the air through a pre-filter (to catch the big dust and maximize the life of the more expensive HEPA filter) and a HEPA filter. They draw from about 60 watts to 100 watts, depending upon the speed (that works out to about 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 kilowatt hours per day, which may add from 10 to 30 cents to your daily electric bill). The pre-filters run about $35 for a 4-pack, which lasts for a year. The HEPA ("Filtreet") may cost about $80, and should be good for a year."

Keep in mind that running an air purifier costs a little money, but it's well worth it, and is relatively cheap compared to the alternatives.

I've always been under the impression that the Ionic Breeze by the Sharper Image was a piece of sh!t as proven by many outlets such as consumer reports in particular. I'd stay away from any of their Ionic Breeze products.
