This one guy on Egay has like 20 of them for sale. Buying 20 to Egay them is being an ass. Christ...I hope he gets burned when the price drops due to the market being saturated.

Hanky-

No you dont. Its just atapi cdrom as far as the system is concerned. You might need to update whatever software you use but other than that its pretty easy.

Damnit - I keep checking the website hoping that they might allow more orders from there. =(

Damn people getting 20 drives for eGay... I wouldn't mind paying someone here cost+shipping for a drive if they wanted to be nice ;) Must better than paying some prick $199 on eGay.

I just checked eebbay too, and I must say that I feel BETTER. What I saw there proves only a FEW people are jerks. There are over 50 drives for sale there, BUT most are by 4 people....Given that this was a NATION WIDE sale, then just having 4 or 5 people be greedy bastards shows that the vast majority of people who read about the sale here were not as*holes about it.

Really SOL for me.. drove over 100 miles to 3 stores and was lucked out on all of them. People were walking out with 2-5 drives each and plenty coming in to price adjust from having bought them previously :(. Online order is processing, but I doubt that will come through as they have a reputation for cancelling. When I finally got one home, it turned out to be the 12x4x32x :( - has Burnproof but still.

Ahh well maybe the online order will come through... till then I'm gonna try my luck tommorrow.

Take the following for what it's worth:

I was in CompUSA today getting a price adjustment for the drives
I bought the other day. No problem. There was a guy there
asking about the drives, and when he was told there were no
more (this was only minutes after they opened), he started
to throw a fit, at which point the general manager of the
store came out.

The GM told him that they had no more, and didn't expect to get
any more. I mentioned at this point that the Web site was
still showing availability by mail order. The GM told me that
he was with corporate (according to him, he was only temping
as GM to "get the store in order"), and that the drives were
(and I quote) "backordered to the sky...We're not going to get
more, NO ONE is going to get more. And what I've heard from
corporate is that most of the on-line orders are going to get
cancelled."

Now, this may or may not be true, but the guy didn't have any
reason to lie. Take it for what it's worth.

summon:

to be honest, the CompUSA in my area (Ann Arbor, Michigan) is in the same strip mall as the BB. I walked from one to the other within about three minutes. how far is your CompUSA from your BB? please keep us posted regarding the outcome of your situation. best of luck!

Soon after this deal was posted, I placed an on-line order for 2 though CompUSA. Sunday morning I saw the post about Best Buy having them for the same price. I zoomed right over there and got 2 of the 4 they had on the shelf. The shelf price was $250 so I had the sales guy scan it; came up $130 w/$30 rebate. The sales guy was surprised to see this and immediately grabbed one for himself. I lucked out because noboby knew about this. I sent a cacellation to CompUSA; maybe somone will get lucky and get those 2 if they still have any to ship on Tuesday.

Pardon me if this has already been mentioned-- , but for all of you having ASPI problems, have you considered using FORCEASPI.exe? (Link). I used that to update my ASPI layers when I installed my Plex1210. It worked without a hitch for me, but

there are significant disclaimers about the damage it can do if it doesn't work
READ HERE ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
Click here then follow the link to the ForceASPI page for details about the program.
(would prob have to do a reinstall of the OS, or more?)

Anyway, I used that and my ASPI layers are all up to date perfectly. I updated my plex without a hitch to 1.07 (I used the Euro version of the firmware as people said that they had fewer problems with that).

Don't blame me if you try it and it fries your system.

Peeps,

I am afraid you missed out on a great deal. Iomega 12x10x32x for $99 @ compusa($150 Instant Rebate and then a $30 Mail in rebate). You might want to go check your local compusa and see if they have any. Good Luck!!! :D

Howdy,

I buzzed over to the local CompUSA (Fairfax, Va) on Friday at 11:30am. At that time there were approx. 20+ on the shelves. I purchased 2. I went back on Sunday, and they gladly returned and simply re-rung the drives at the new sale price $129.99. Best Buy also jumped the bandwagon and had the same pricing ($99.99 after $30.00 mir. $129.99) Both drives updated to the plextor firmware (1.07) without a problem.

The rebate coupon from the store says purchase between 12/30/00 to 3/31/01.

There are links to the early rebate which ends 12/31/00 and another which starts 1/1/01. So not to worry about claiming the $30 rebate.

Notes;
If you are not comfortable, or do NOT have the understanding of what DMA is, or that you have a VIA chipset and the DMA check box is no longer there under device manager (you use setDMA app)and you don't know what to do? You might want to go into the other forums and ask. Or don't do it.(for your own safety) Just be aware that you can end up with a drive that doesn't work anymore. :(

NEW DEAL;
Well, now that everyone has a new 12x burner.. you will probably want some decent deal on cd-r's. Well, it might not be white hot, its still a decent price.
Outpost has the Kingston Hypermedia 12x 80min. 700mb 50-pack spindle for $12.95 with free overnight shipping. (I use these disk, and like them myself.)sku#84220

Moz, how do you know you have a 12x4x32 instead of a 12x10x32? Does it say that on the front bezel or did you test it? Furthermore, how do you know it still had burnproof?
