First of all, congrats to those who this update was easy.
Mine, well, was a major pain in the ass. 4 hours later, it's done. Hope this helps others.
Problem:
Running the 1.07 update just hangs. No display, nothing.
Scenario:
Windows 98 SE
ASUS CUSL2-C, Award BIOS ver ???
Running Adaptecs apsichk.exe: missing Aspienum.vxd
Running the 1.07 update in Safe mode: Error initializing winaspi32.dll
NOTE: The only, and I mean only, place I have control of Ultra DMA settings
is via the AWARDS BIOS. Thats it. Nothing via Control Panel, System,
Properties on the CD Drives (both Iomega and existing Memorex 48x) as
far as DMA settings.
Solution: (Steps I did, neccessary is questionable, I'm just glad I'm done.)
Get a hold of Aspienum.vxd. Put it into c:\windows\system.
Uninstalled all Adaptec stuff installed from Iomega CDs.
reboot.
Installed NERO 5.8 (ps: AstaLaVista, for a non-virus crack).
reboot.
FINALLY!! Was able to run Adaptec's APSI32.exe update. (I tried faking Adaptec
controllers till the cows came home, but all was shiite, no friggin luck.)
reboot.
WAMMO! Was now able to run 1.07 firmware update.
Special thanks to "Franko", who was extremely helpful.
Other thanks to MrVW, who was helpful to a point.
