I highly recommend pricematching with The Wiz if you are in NYC. They still have plenty in stock.

The Manager gave me hell as well, but their policy clearly states that they pricematch with CompUSA. It doesn't even require that the item is in stock, you just need a current ad.

I agree..I bought and installed mine yesterday..I burned a backup copy of TonyHawk2 while I had three browser windows open, realtime weather updater going,Tv tuner on and posting on here all at the same time! No probs at all. Burned like a speed demon and disk works fine. WHo cares about the buffer? This thing kicks ass regardless!:|😀:|🙁:Q

has anyone tried to rip a CD, I did 2 and the average speed was 14x.

Not sure why it was not faster.
I did flash to 1.07

I got the last cdrw yesterday but it was opened at comp usa. Should I get some kind of "open boxed" discount or special compensation when i return it today

I need some help.

How do I update my firmware? I downloaded the update and everything, but do I just run it? Do I have to disable DMA? COuld someone list some steps to doing it please?

To disable dma goto:

Control Panel -> System ->Device Manager tab -> Cdrom icon -> select the iomega drive then properties -> settings tab -> uncheck the DMA box and reboot

I have the TDK version of this drive and now have an Iomega one too. Both of them rip audio at an average of 14x or so with firmware 1.07. Remember that the read rates are usually in terms of maximum transfer rate... not average.

You know what really pisses me off? People that go online and order 10 of these drives, then turn around and sell them on eGay for $200. Then a poor college kid like myself goes to order one, and they're no longer in stock. That just SUCKS! Some people's greed keeps others from getting a drive that they really need. Learn some moderation, and leave some for the rest of us, who really need the deals 🙁

<< on the iomega rebate form it says "no Purchase Orders accepted"...
what exactly does this mean? >>

many companies use a purchase order to buy things - meaning they don't pay for it now, but their companies will receive a bill from CompUSA later with all the items they bought and how much they owe later on.

its buying on company credit, without the credit card.

if you paid by cash, credit card, or check you should get the rebate, as long as you followed all their directions.

Hot dog, after searching 3 COMPUSAs (one sold out in 2 mins!) I found one, however I brought it home and it was the 12x 4x 32x drive.. if anyone knows what the differences are (aside from the 10x vs 4x CD-RW speed) let me know.

I managed to place an order online this morning so if that comes through this will go back...

Great deal btw.

You guys are my hero! 🙂

Here's my firmware update experience:

Updated 1.06 to 1.07 under Windows 2000 (I have w2k, winme, and redhat on my system) successfully.

Didn't bother checking DMA or updating (what's its name) layer at all.

Ok, I disabled DMA, the double clicked on plfirm32.exe. THe firle was located in a subfolder with the .rom file. After clicking on it, nothing happened. If you did a CRTL-ALT-DEL, it showed it running, but I didnt see anything on the screen. Was it updating it, or did I do something wrong?

DDDay,

I ripped a 65 min CD using CD Speed 99 and got a max of 22.5x with a P-CAV type under Win2k. However, under Win98 with the same CD I get a max of 31.5x with a CAV type. I guess it's OS dependent.

Update: Found out that DMA was not enabled in Win2k. Enabling yielded around the same result as in Win98.

this is an IDE drive, right? i have not done a lot to the inside of my computer. i just want to take out my old 4x2x24 and replace it with this one. is that easy to do? easy instructions to follow?

gev115, yes that should work. I replaced my HP8100 with this drive in no time. The back of all these drives should be really similar.

I didn't even open the software bundle that came with the new drive.

MrVW,

Got the drive installed. It has 1.04 on it out of the box. Tried running the 1.07 (iomega12x10x32xfirmwareupdatev1.07.zip), and it runs, nothing is displayed, but it still shows up as running even though the hourglass is done.

Nothing happened.

This was with the Iomega as a Slave drive on the same EIDE strap.

Then I retried everything with the Iomega as the Master, and only device on the IDE strap. Same problem. Runs, looks like it finishes. *No* display, it still actually is running. Nothing happens.

Don't know how to turn DMA off. Don't know what else to try. Help!!

Running Windows98SE. Celeron633.

If you or someone can give me a call, if you would be open to that, I could immediately call you back. 425-771-9072.

thanks!

Is anybody concerned about the fact that this drive has a 1.8 meg buffer, (same as the 2 meg plextor?) whereas supposedly the identical cd-burn-r from imation has a 4 meg? CLearly there's a reason for a 4 meg buffer... I just wish I knew what it was...
