So can you share with us what you would have done in my scenario?

Wrote your info in blood on the car's windshield. Or you can take off and have some crazy Viet Nam vet track you down to show you what happens when you fuck a stranger in the ass.

Wow, at the very least, I *always* have napkins in the glovebox & pencils in the door or glove box. Usually pens, but they're not that dependable when it's really cold out.

Corporate Thug...I am glad we ran into each other......I am waiting on an estimate to the scratches and minor dings that you made when you hit my customized Lotus Elise S....with my custom paint job.

So far the lowest estimate I have is $95,000.36 ........Thank You for leaving your contact number with the police.

You da man!!

I try to as well, but I didn't in this particular instance. Hindsight in 20/20...could have / should have / would have isn't going to change what's been done.

So I accidentally bumped in a car that was parked about 500 ft from my house (more of a clip)...minor damage to my car (scratches and a tiny dent). I think I broke the other cars front light but not much beyond that. Anyway, I ran back to my place to grab and pen and pad to leave the contact info and low and behold the car left by the time I got there. -- I immediately took my car to get an estimate....I was not worried about the broken tail light. But that custom paint job, well now that will cost.....especially all the 24 carat gold flake....

So I called the PD and left them my contact number but I'm not sure what else to do at this point. I've seen the car before so I'm pretty sure I can track it down (eventually). I plan on periodically driving through the street in the evenings to see if I can find the car. -- Thank You for being a responsible car owner!

I just feel bad that the car owner is probably thinking "what a great effin start to my week." -- I know...I saw all the golds flake and said oh my God....
Anyone been in a similar situation? Any additional thoughts/advice?

Don`t worry I have progressive....

The poor person probably went to get their car fix after you fled the scene.

...they probably saw you hit their car, too.

wow, you certainly know a lot for not being there...if he/she is half as eager to get her car fixed, hopefully she will call the cops and they can give her my contact information.

The cops told me that there is no reason for them to get involved beyond giving the car owner my contact info if he or she calls so you have to excuse me if I don't get worked up about the your posts.

Also, as usual, you've added nothing of use to the thread. Carry on.

I would have called the police on the spot, waited for them to arrive and write up an incident report.

I have heard WAYY too many stories just like yours, where someone saw the accident and called it in...... And the person who left the scene ending up with a warrant for their arrest.

That's reasonable but maybe it's different in your city because the Police specifically told me that they won't come out unless there is bodily injury. They wouldn't even make a police report over the phone - only take down my contact info.

My dad was in a fender bender earlier this year and he tried to call the cops to same out...same thing. As soon as you say that there is no injury, they don't want anything to do with it.

Hopefully the victim calls it in as well and they figure it out. I was the victim of a hit and run and it really pissed me off. Unfortunately for me, the guy took off and even with his license plate he's been denying it to my insurance all this time. Luckily I have uninsured protection to take care of my car but it sucks that insurance companies have to deal with this crap.

Right, because if you were actually there, you could have talked to him/her. But you went home instead...so you might never know who the person was.

Or maybe they won't call the cops...because they probably figured you were a deadbeat that crashed into their car and left. People do that all the time.

What are you mad for? I am only stating the obvious. Saying you went home for a pen is not a good argument for not sticking around.

You could have parked the car and waited to see if anyone came out...or God forbid...knock on someone's door. That's what I would have done.

I could talk to her even though nobody was there? yeah, that makes sense.

Like I said, if they don't, I will continue my efforts to find the car. Since I've seen it parked on that block before, I'm bound to find it again.

Not getting mad at all. All I'm saying is given the circumstances, I didn't know what else I could do. As I mentioned above, the cops wouldn't come out one way of another. BTW, less than 10 minutes elapsed from the time of the accident to the time of the call to the PD.

So, you're telling me there are adults who don't have a pen and paper either on them or in the car at all times? I don't think I've ever left the house without a pen in the last 20 years.

I have several non working pens in my car. I am apparently collecting them.

Somebody was there because when you came back, the car was gone. How can you be sure nobody was there when you didn't stick around long enough to find out?

I already suggested you could have knocked on doors. At least it would have shown some effort on your part. Its good that you called the cops...but what if the victim never calls and what if you *don't* see the car again...then what?

What if they already paid to get it fixed? How can you tell your insurance company you hit somebody and then went home?

I don't know man..

It's very hard to believe you didn't have something to write with in you car. Once again, even if you didn't, you could have knocked on someone's door to ask.

I was on a road that comes up to the feter road of a freeway. It had one of those auto right turn lanes that curves around - so that everyone can right turn on the red automatically.

This douche fuck in front of me starts going through the right turn on red, obviously because no cars are coming. Naturally, I pull up a little, turn to the side to catch a glimpse - still clearly no cars coming. I press the gas.... except apparently this fucking retard ops to go halfway into the lane and stop.

I tried to slam my breaks but there was no option - I bumped him in the back, it pushed him out fully into the feter... and the guy just clearly drives off. He starts getting on to the freeway.. I was waiting for him to pull over or something, but he doesn't - so I shrugged it off :whiste:

I've done pretty much that exact same thing... twice! Both times obviously my fault, both times sub 5 mph and both times hitting expensive cars. The first was a tiny women in a mercedes suv that initially was fine but later "developed" back problems. My insurance, after inspecting my car and realizing there was almost 0 damage, told her to eff off or sue.

The second was with a brand new caddy... that happened to have 2 ladies and their brand new baby in it... ugh. That one worried me, even with such a low speed collision. Again, 0 damage to my car, small scratch on their bumper (I'm driving a 95 civic in both of these accidents). They did go to the doctors to be sure but everyone was fine.

Needless to say I drive like a freaking grandpa now when I'm in those curvy right turn lanes.

You did nothing wrong. A lot of these guys are just being stupid trolls like normal. Because it's the cool thing to do these days. Hell you probably went beyond what most people would (calling the police), and not just say, "eh fuck it dumbass left".

Though QUIT HITTING PARKED CARS! I'll admit I've done it once because I was tired, and went through a drive through and dozed a bit. Luckly she looked back at me with her jacked up truck and waved (hitch may have got a scratch).

Wait so you left the scene of the accident?

Of all people you should know better... Not even to go get a pen etc...

Depending upon the state, he could have up to 24 hours to report the accident, and be forgiven leaving the scene.

I learned that when some drunk a-hole sideswiped my parked car, in a parking lot. Being stationed in California at the time, CHP handled the situation, since it was a for-sure hit & run. When he showed up to take the report, I was able to give him a description of the vehicle, the driver, and the license plate number. CHP looked up the plate number while I was there, and got the driver's name and address, then told me that since he had an hour before shift change, he was going to drive over to the idiot's house, and confront him about the accident.....and remind him he had 24 hours to report the accident, or it would be considered a hit & run.

You are right, but again you are looking at it from hindsight. I waited for a few minutes and nobody was there...could they have showed up in the very next minute after I left? Sure. Could they have not moved the car for the entire day? Sure. No way for me to tell.

And I responded to your suggestion. I live on a block of ALL CONDOS that have security entrances. There is NO WAY to know which CONDO the car owner lives in, let alone the UNIT.

What would I be telling my insurance company exactly? Also, keep in mind by "going home" I walked 500 feet to my condo with my car parked at the scene.

I'm not trying to convince you or anyone else. I reported it to the police and they had no interest in taking any action other than taking down my info.

Back in December, I was cleaning out my car and heard screeching tires in the parking lot. Someone was going around the parking lot at like 40 and they crashed right into someone's parked car as they were about to leave.

The bitch behind the wheel wasted no time backing up and peeling out of the parking lot. I got her license plate and everything.

I hope she fried for that because it was the worst thing I've ever seen. If that happened to me and nobody witnessed, I'd be pissed.

I don't necessarily think that it's terribly common to have them, but I do keep a pen and small pad of paper in my car. The pen is mostly used for writing mileage information on my gas receipts.
