Invisalign Braces???

What do you think yea or nay?

I am wanting to get my teeth straightened. Was thinking of trying the invisalign because you won't need to have the dentist adjusting wires in your mouth. OUCH! Hurts just thinking about it.

So sound offf about your braces experiences and help this Braces noob shed his noobie beanie. 😉
 
I had braces about 10 years ago when I was in high school. You get used to them and they only hurt for a day or two after you get them adjusted. It was really the appearance that bothered me the most.

I knew someone who had Invisalign. Even though they only look like little pieces of plastic, I've heard that they actually do hurt when you change them out for a new set every month. Also, I think they're a lot more expensive than regular braces, but this was a few years ago when they first came out. Of course appearance-wise, there's no comparison.
 
i'm sure any braces hurt. it goes with the territory.. movin those teeth. i had normal braces. only improvement i see with the newer stuff is the ease of cleanin and looks.
 
Problems I had with conventional braces...


- Sometimes the main wire that threads all of the braces came poking out in the back, and would dig into my jaw. One time I actually dethreaded that half and snipped the end with wire pliers. Worked really well.
- 2-3 days after monthly "adjustments", my whole mouth would hurt like a bitch. Making eating anything not very pleasant, and sometimes headaches would occur.
- Food getting stuck into back braces.
- Lip getting cut or forming cankor sores from brace friction (they give you wax, but it doesn't help much).
- Forming habbits of tonguing and grinding the braces.

Getting them removed (unseated) from the teeth HURT LIKE A MOTHER LOVING BITCH. I've never experienced any worse dental pain (only rivaled by the aftermath of having 4 wisdom teeth removed).

Those Invasaline braces definitely look more pleasing. Though I'm sure they're more expensive.
 
Well the looks thing is not an issue, superficiality is not my thing. (Uh, how ironic is that?) Er whatever. The reason I am getting braces is it feels really wierd when i run my tongue along the back of my teath and it is all jagged cause the teeth are twisted and cramed in. Also i can't really clench my teeth as they do not line up very well.
 
The pain thing is more of a concern to me. But I can tolerate most pain just not non stop pain, I get real irritable when i am like that.

Yeah, glue that's strong enough to hold them on for 3 years getting pried off with what are essentially the dental version of Craftsman pliers; that wasn't fun. 4 wisdom teeth did suck more though...mouth full of bloody gauze.
 
well i'd probably suggest them even if they are more expensive. being able to remove to clean your teeth would be a great advantage. many people have plenty of decay after normal braces, its almost inevitable ...that adds to ur costs😛

no seriously tho. I already have the tounging habit with my teeth the way they are. Anyone have any idea about cost comparison between the 2?

Don't worry... I think my orthodontist sucked. And those were just the bad things... the good thing was straight teeth! Oh and also, one of the ladies there was really hot.
 
Well I am going to check into the prices for the invisalign braces. Who knows maybe they can do them on payment plans.
 
I would get regular braces but with clear brackets, not only is the invisalign more expensive it takes 3x's as long as traditional braces. I would just get it over and done with. If you can stand pain you can ask your ortho to be more aggressive with your teeth. Thats what I did and I got all my stuff done in 8 months.
 
I had both types braces. I had the conventional kind back when i was in middle school to correct the upper and lower jaws. After about 8-10 years, my lower front tooth wasn't in line anymore - it had moved forward. The dentist said there was a higher chance of chipping when i chewed, so i got invisalign.

I only needed invisalign for the bottom jaw and my orthodontist said it would not be any more expensive to go with the invisalign. Invisaligns were awesome. They set me up with a 10 mold system where I'd wear a mold for 2 weeks then move to the next one. In about 3 months time, my tooth was back in place.

I would say that painwise, invisalign is the way to go. There is always soreness whether you use conventional braces or invisalign. But you won't get the sores on the inside of your lip. You don't have to worry about long ortho visits (it would only take 2 minutes for him to check on me and give me my next set of molds). Also, the visits to the ortho are a lot more pleasant. No more tugging on your teeth. The best part is that you can take the braces out and eat whatever you want. They don't affect your speech much either.

Whatever you do, make sure you wear your retainer. I have a retainer that is basically my last invisalign mold (If I were you, I would avoid having them cement in a wire retainer because they don't work well with gum or carmel, etc). I wear it every night. It's no inconvenience at all. It's definitely worth the effort to make sure you won't need braces again.

If invisalign is roughly the same price, then definitely go with them over conventional braces.
 
I asked about Invisalign recently, even after having braces during my HS years (I guess I didn't wear my retainer often enough). Dentist said it would run $5100 (my insurance covers $2500) and it would take 4-6 months to do its job so it's not bad. Regular braces, back in the 90s, cost $1k-$1.5k. and I had those things on for longer. A 2nd option my dentist offered me were veneers. They "cut" half the depth of your tooth and insert a porcelain front half. Don't ask me how this actually straightens your teeth but I saw actual before/after pictures and it looks to be just as effective. Downside - it runs $900 per tooth and they do 6 of them. First question in my mind was... well what about my lower teeth ? Can get pricey.
 
I got braces about 2 years ago, and got them off 6 months ago. It was a horrible experience, but you get used to it. I now have what appear to be invisalign for retainers and they are pretty nice. The best part is that you can take them out to eat and such. They still hurt though if you leave them out for awhile and can hurt for many days just like with braces. Talk with an orthodontist and get a free consultation. Invisalign isn't for everyone. I wasn't a candidate so I had to have braces.

Braces are okay, get used to them after a while. Hurts for up to a day after you get the wires tightened, and they can skewer the inside of your cheeks sometimes

 
invisilign requires more visits to the ortho doesn't it? I'm not sure which I'd rather have... I've had braces twice, and use an invisilign as a retainer. The invisilign is disgusting when you have to take em out to eat, and needs more work to keep clean (well, that might be because i've had the same one for two years now....)

As far as braces pain goes... couple days when you first get them on, and then once a month... but usually only hurts when you try to eat.
 
I'm actually going to the ortho this Friday, so I will have some questions for him.

The pro's: (from what I hear) shorter time period, less ortho visits, less noticable to people, convienient.. etc!
The con's: Hell of a lot more expensive (although they've been out for a while now)
 
I got braces over the summer. I tried to get Invisalign, but I was not a candidate either. The option presented to me was traditional metal wire/bracket.

It is not that bad. I feel no pain in my teeth, ever. I did feel pain when they cut my lip though. Anytime you moved your lip there was a burning, ug. That can take about a week to 10 days to heal. Throughout it all, make sure to keep your braces clean. After everymeal, regardless of where I am, I rinse and spit in the bathroom with water until I get all of the food particles out. This lasts me until I can brush either at work or home.

I am not quite at the rubberband stage yet and am not looking forward to having to take that out before everymeal, but will cross that bridge when I get to it. If you are worrying about how you look with braces and what the opposite sex will think, don't worry about it. If they judge you, fvck em. I met and dated a model for a few months after I got mine in and she didn't care and loved kissing me.
 
Removing the brackets cemented to my teeth was the LEAST pain of the whole duration that I had braces. It was quite painless (well, it was slightly jarring when they popped them off).
