Invisalign Braces???

it depends on your teeth, it IS possible you arent elegible for invisilign..... you might have to be metal mouth for a little while, then switch over to the invisibles... it depends on ur teef
 
When they took off my braces, i just felt pressure. It didn't hurt any, just pressure.

Now, grinding off the extra glue was another story.
 
Yes...the mini sander sucks (the one they use to take the glue off after they pop off the brackets). Unfortunately my tounge has a mind of its own (wouldn't stay in the back of my throat) and got violently sanded. :Q

other than that...I had 5 years of ortho work done and it turned out really well, except for the fact that now my teeth are moving again...2 years after they told me I could leave the retainers out. I am thinking of getting the invisaligns as soon as I get dental insurace. I wouldn't go back to traditional braces unless I had absolutely no other choice and was condemned to look like lester the backwoods hick if I didn't do something.
 
i expect they hurt as much as normal braces, but at least you just get a new set instead of having to sit there while the crank at your teeth. also, normal braces can leave your teeth discolored in patches because it's impossible to clean properly everywhere.

like me... it was called pulling out four permanent molars because my jaw is too small
 
Big no from someone who has the invisible retainers. They get discolored quite easily and arent comfortable at all. You will suck at talking and you have to remove them anytime if want to eat anything. God I hate them.

Anyone else have an opinion?

I just saw the brochure at my dentist place and was thinking of making an appointment with a ortho to see what my options are and ofcourse the price.

 
I would go with conventional braces, but make sure you get a good orthodontist to install them...

My teeth were never in bad shape though I had a pretty serious overbite. I only had to wear braces for 11 months because I told the orthodontist to really crank my braces down when he adjusted them. I ate a diet of yogurt and melted ice cream there for a while, but it was worth it.

How does one find a good ortho? unfortunately i don't have any friends that well have kids or have had braces in long time to get a recommendation.

The ortho i want to talk to was recommended by my dentist.

Not reeaaaalllyy...

like freesia said, they may have to take care of some things before they get you into braces, but it can usually be done. This may include slight or heavy surgeries, cutting away some bits of the gums and removing teeth that would hinder the effects of braces.

But really if you teeth are really crooked and messed up, it just means you are going to have braces longer. Just think of it as getting your money's worth 😉

4000 alright i could get a dental loan for that, but mmm i think i rather pay off some other loans first.

I inquired at my dentist and he said $5100... $2500 is covered by my dental insurance. It's worth it if you need it. I think conventional ugly-braces were $1500... at least back in the early 90s they were.
 
Get regular braces. They cost less and probably take less time. You'll be glad you did in the end. I was. Now my smile looks like this 😀 instead of 😕.

I took one look when the ortho should me the barbwire and was truely revolted.
 
The worst part for me was when they put the spacers in for my molars. Molars were really sore for two days. Braces weren't that bad (although it was a long time ago, maybe they were).

Are invisiline's 100% effective? I got braces in middle school when everyone had them, so the appearance wasn't an issue. I don't know--rather do them so I'd be sure they'd work.

Nothing is 100% in dentistry. Invisiline takes longer but can have very good results. There are many differences but they try to have the same outcome. Personaly I think that regular brackets do a better job, quicker and cheaper. So many people have braces that the apperance isn't that big of a deal for me but I advise my patients to look into all options and find the one that best suits them. For many the price is the deciding factor.
 
i have a question in regards to insurance. is invisallign covered by dental insurance? i know that a dentist doesn't do it and that an orthodontist does it, as i had braces before. but like many others in this thread said, my bottom teeth have moved a little and i would not mind using invisallign to straighten them back out, especially if it can take only about 6 months to do so. and i just got dental insurance here at work so please, someone let me know, thanks!

I guess it depends on the type of dental insurance that you have. Most dental insurance will not cover or only give you a discount.

Depending on how badly you need braces, you may not get laid regardless. 😉

FWIW, I don't have any of the problems the above poster had. Keep in mind though that I only wear mine at night. I've had the same retainer for over 2 wears and it hasn't discolored yet. It is comfortable and it is small enough that it doesn't affect my speech at all.
