What about people who don't post or surf on the web... would it be justified if they just walked away from the mess ? I fail to see how this would be a good interview question for real live candidates.Originally posted by: mugs

The answer he's looking for is turn it off and clean it up. Last time, most people said they'd call maintenance, and a lot of people here agreed with them and disagreed with Citrix, because they felt their time was too valuable to be spent cleaning up coffee. The thing is, most of them were posting in the thread FROM work, pretty much destroying their point.
wow from that post, your name, and avatar, I feel like I know you completely!Originally posted by: Slacker

I do not think this situation would ever happen here.
I am positive that in a company as prestigious and self sufficient as i have seen your's to be, I am certain that the appliances generously provided for employee use by company are well maintained as indicated in the user's manual.
I am confident the people that have been employed by you and the rest of management are responsible and smart enough to use the coffee maker as directed by the manufacturer thereby the theorectical situation you have described will never ever come to be.
Am i correct in my assumption Mr. Citrix?

I can't believe anyone would hire you if you answered interview questions like that. Seriously, do you talk like that in real life, or is that just your writing style?

The point is, if you just leave it the situation will just get worse. I'm guessing he's looking for people who will "think outside the box" and not do what their training tells them to do (call maintenance), but rather do what is necessary to prevent the problem from getting worse.

Say you are going to the cafeteria and notice the coffee pot overflowing. what do you do.
(some of you may remember me asking that question the last time i had to interview)

Do you mean if I were an employee of the company or if I was there for the interview, and went into the kitchen for a drink while waiting for you and this happened?
If I was an employee, I'd clean it, no problem. I'm not sure what I'd do if I was just there for the interview.

Citrix - would you actually ask this question in a real life interview? If so, WOW ... you must interview a lot of stupid people? No offense to anybody. I can't imagine that people could efficiently execute any relatively important job responsibilities if they can't handle a coffee machine? I know that many places, nobody bothers refilling the coffee - that's one thing. But wherever I work I make a point of ensuring firstly that I do my job as well as I can, or at the very minimum, better than what I see being done by other employees. Secondly, I usually do things to try and get noticed to move up in the company. That means "thinking outside the box" as previously mentioned.
I hate staying in the same position for extended periods of time ... gotta move up.

So now cleaning up spilled coffee is "thinking outside the box"?
Ummm, yeah, ok.
