Interview or not? Sales position with Dell.

I have an interview setup with a company which is hiring for Dell. This is the second interview, I already made it through the first one, which was nothing at all. If I make it through this one, then there will be a final interview.

The interview is for an inside sales position, selling computers over the phone to employees. It's not cold calling, customers call you. The position pays $25K + Commission. I have zero experience with sales, infact I don't even know how to sell things. Sure I can explain and answer questions about computers, but that's about it. They do have training and everything.

Aside from no experience, I speak English with an accent (and thanks to my so called "friends", I have developed a huge inferiority complex because of it). I don't think people actually want to buy computers from people who speak with foreign accents, as I have noted from the Dell tech support hatred here.

I think what they are doing is inviting everyone interested to an interview. So it's not like was pre-screened for this position. The interview will last for 4 hours, and is in Austin (around 1.5-2.0 hours away). I personally think I will get rejected. But then again, that is what I think about every job.

So in conclusion, I don't know what I mean by all that, I am just confused.

Is the job, if you get going to be in Austin? 1.5-2 hours is a hella of a commute unless you move. Austin is a great city though and good luck with the interview.

Yes, the job will be in Austin, and if I do go interview and get the job, I will relocate. But the question is whether to interview or not.

Go for it, job market is pretty tight. Might as well have something than nothing unless you already have a job and are making the same amount...

Yeah, but I don't think that language is used in business that much, atleast in this country. But the FBI really wants people who speak that language.

Go to the interview, even if you are 100% sure you won't get the job. Each job interview gives you good experience, and makes you that much better prepared for future interviews.

When people start a job search they are generally pretty nervous, and that shows. I recommend people apply for three jobs they don't even want, just to go through the process a few times. If they don't even want the job, they won't feel any pressure and will learn better how to conduct themselves.

Are you an Arab-American? That would be cool if you are!

If you get the job you'll have no problem. Just tell them your name is Tommy Vercetti and you're going to jack their car if they don't buy lots of computers. :p

Well, my advice is to go for it man.

Dell has been steadily building up a good rep for a long time. You'd be going with a winner.

As far as the accent goes, you CAN change your accent with training... if you wanted to.

Good luck!

I've never had that problem... maybe it's because I only call their server support?

THe two times I called, the first being that I got cut off on the phone. I called back and tried to get the person I was origionally talking to, the Indian tech (Ishmar) said that there is 11 people with the same name that work here that could have been working on your call. ... LOL
