Hmmm. Ever heard of Loving v Virginia?

Did you also know the last state to lift bans on interracial marriage was Alabama and that wasn't until the year 2000. And the vote was 60-40.

But I guess I'm just off base.

Hmm... sorry I thought I was in 2012, reading a statistic from 2012. A statistic which shows 2 states that seceded during the civil war have a higher proportion of interracial marriages than northern states, these same northern states that have residents that say things like "the south just had a collective heart attack".

But I guess I'm just off base.

Of course not. Skin color is just the uniform. If everyone were beige, a new uniform would be procured.

At some point though racial features due 'cross-breeding' is going to make everyone indistinguishable from each other I would think.

Be a long time before that ever happens in Texas

Don't judge people Dave. I'm an economically conservative Texan who is completely in support of Gay marriage, interracial marriage, and right to choose. As in most things, the stereotype rarely stands up to the light of day.

Based just on posters in here & ATPN you are the exception rather than the rule.

1 in 12. Better?
Yep:thumbsup:

Yes because posters in here and P&N are a good sampling of Texas...keep that stereotype going why don't you

BTW I am also a Texan and could really give a shit who marries who, I don't see any reason to encourage it though either, what's the damn point of that?

Attention Texans

My wife and I are an interracial couple, and we're from the southern portion of Texas. Who gives a crap, we've been stared at no matter where we go so why do you choose to single out Texas? Keep your bullshit in P&N. Your ignorance towards a state and it's populace is no different than someone who opposes interracial or same-sex marriage.

Interracial marriage in US hits new high: 1 in 12

Interracial marriages in the U.S. have climbed to 4.8 million — a record 1 in 12 — as a steady flow of new Asian and Hispanic immigrants expands the pool of prospective spouses. Blacks are now substantially more likely than before to marry whites.

The top three states for white-black married couples are Virginia, North Carolina and Kansas, all with rates of about 3 percent.

The south just had a collective heart attack

I'm white. Wife is Vietnamese. My neighbor is white. Married to a black woman. Neighbor three doors down is white. Married to a black woman.

Only person being prejudicial around here is you.

No, they can't. It's too important that everyone knows how cool they are.

My own xenophobic tendencies make me hesitate to encourage it, but I see how it will benefit society. If other species are any indication, mixing different breeds often makes for hardier, more intelligent offspring. It also forces more interaction between different cultures, which helps enormously in reducing xenophobia such as I mentioned earlier. If an asian person marries a black person, that would almost certainly result in increased interaction between each of their families, incrementally improving relations between blacks and asians. Eventually, when it's widespread enough, every culture's exposure to every other culture could be great enough to fundamentally change how they all view each other. Even though interracial couples currently fall under a degree of social taboo, the short term drawbacks on the individual level are vastly outweighed by the long-term gains for society as a whole.

Meh...we're humans, we'll just find something new to hold against each other, it's part of our nature😛

Everyone know the south historically has been more racist then the rest of the country. If they were so open minded why did it take Alabama so long and why did 40% object?

It wan't Loving v New York. Remember Bob Jones University??

My point the south had a deserving reputation for my crack. However we should all be happy the south has gotten better over the years.

Are VA/NC technically southern states? Yes, but in reality we have much more in common with our neighbors to the north than with those backwards yokels in the true south. 😉

A better label is Mid-Atlantic for the tweener states.

As a North Carolinian, I take extreme offense that some carpet bagging asswhipe would consider my state yankee territory!
