They counted hispanics as a race (it's a linguistic group composed of several races). That surely inflates the number though. Would be like counting French-Canadian with English-Canadian weddings as mixed marriages.

Admit your prejudice against southerners, because the facts show that southerners are improving race relations by actually marrying interracial in higher numbers than northern states.
Improving may be a stretch but we're certainly tolerant of it, but the libs need their boogey man and the southerners are the best they got so they stick with it

2 of the 3 on there are states that seceded during the civil war.

Yet we have asinine comments such as these.

Hmmm. Ever heard of Loving v Virginia?

Did you also know the last state to lift bans on interracial marriage was Alabama and that wasn't until the year 2000. And the vote was 60-40.

But I guess I'm just off base.

Are VA/NC technically southern states? Yes, but in reality we have much more in common with our neighbors to the north than with those backwards yokels in the true south. 😉

A better label is Mid-Atlantic for the tweener states.

No way. VA and NC are full blown south. Mid Atlantic(a term which I endorse) is more correctly applied to MD, DE, and southern PA imo.

Full blown southern states that voted for a black man in 2008?? 😀

If there were an East/West split, I would say the eastern halves would be included in this Mid-Atlantic regional philosphy. The western sides are definitely more aligned with the south.

Perhaps. I'm more familiar with the western side.

I'd say most of VA is full blown south. The only part that isn't is Northern VA (from the DC border out towards Fairfax County).

Remember when you were a kid and you mixed all the different colors of playdoh and it all ended up looking a drab grey.
