Do you know there is a fiber company, Mstar via Utopia, the nations LARGEST muni-fiber network, is now offering 50Mbbps SYNCHRONOUS for $39.99/mo. Here.

So for decent internet we've gotta move to Salt Lake City, UT?

So I gotta move to the NE to get FIOS?

I'm referring to your link and its own map: http://www.dslreports.com/r0/d...07453f0b22a/Utopia.jpg

Oh I know what you meant. Yes it's a limited rollout, with more to come. Same with Verizon's FIOS. Rollout started two years ago, but still it's footprint is small. There are many large ISP's working on DOCSIS 3.0 which will give FIOS speeds, so, my whole point about Mr Troll...er I mean Dave's title, is the internet is not dead, and in fact is getting better.

Vote Ron Paul in 2008!

Ban Dave McOwen in 2007!

May be but I will never be as sad as you.

Dave, a lot of people live on the streets, none of them plan to be homeless, however they all seem to have the attitude that rules and reality don't apply to them.

Dave, a lot of people live on the streets, personally, I think you really need to get off the internet & get a freaking job...

Should it happen I know you guys will be proud because it is what you all expect fo your new America.

Dave, none of us have had a hand in your current troubles, you did it all to yourself.

There is no "New America", the rules didn't change, you just consistently prove you have a poor grasp of reality, and frankly that's another risk factor for ending up on the streets.

Did you drop a lot of acid as a teenager? I mean a lot, cuz I took quite a bit & I still manage to buy shares of Berkshire Hathaway...

Dave I presented clear evidence your threat title is bullshit. Why dont eother 1: you change it, or 2: the mods make you change it? Youre wrong. Dead wrong.

Troll.

Oh and Im not sure where the 65/mo comes from. For VZ FIOS, I see this: Monthly rate of $29.99 (5/2 Mbps or 10/2 Mbps) and $39.99 (15/2 Mbps or 20/5 Mbps) applies to months 2-7. Monthly rate of $39.99/$49.99 applies to months 8-12 (for one year plan) and months 8-24 (for two year plan).

Trolling as usual.

It is for their wireless evdo network.

It's going to be some time before EVDO has enough of a footprint to justify anyone using it as a replacement for DSL/Cable/Satellite, and probably even longer before it is affordable enough for said use.

EVDO and FIOS are both fantastic technologies, but their limited deployment will continue to be the thorn in the side for years to come.

110% bullcrap.

My wife will tell you no one works harder than I have especially the last two years.

Getting ripped off by criminals both private and corporate is not 100% my fault.

You Republicans guys alwats tout how hard work pays off for Americans.

Clearly that is bullshit.

So paying $65/month for nationwide high speed wireless internet service is rip off? Even with the 5 gig cap it is still a pretty good deal. Sprints service costs about the same without the cap, but they are bleeding customers. I think that may tell you something...

Once again and with feeling, I'M NOT A REPUBLICAN.

Here's a jewel for you Dave, and I've never said or posted this before, the main reason I got divorced from my 2nd wife was because she was a loyal Bush supporter, I couldn't stand to hear her yammer on about him, I never told her my feelings, I just pulled away from her emotionally because she was so goddamn oblivious to how screwed up his admin was/is.

Not everyone who disagrees with you is a Republican.

Well, then, the only other explaination is that you are a paid shill by the oil companies

I have a jewel for you, Dave is right and we are all being hosed. And if we think of the internet and a monopoly provider like a for profit utility that delivers us things like water or electricity, the hypocrisies of the analogy fails. Even with our existing in place infrastructure of copper phone lines, a 200 kilo bits per second bandwidth limitation is woefully inadequate to deliver what is needed and what existing infrastructure can provide with small investments.

Unlike electricity which costs money to generate and at least 50% is lost just in transmission, or water that essentially often dirt cheap but is billed by the unit because it costs to purify what amounts to the after use sewage, the technological cost differences in a larger bandwidth comes without real costs. Other countries less advanced than ours are delivering the same or much better services with far less cost, why are not we doing the same? The only real answer is lies in protecting the profits of our telco's who want to inflate the costs of a service that could be delivered far cheaper.

I'll have to check with my Euro friends when they wake up tomorrow.

Wow, you're right, it's free in the UK Text

And haven't you already proven you don't understand the difference between dial up & a T1 line?

So you think broadband should be cheap, yet at the same time verizon is spending $23B to bring FTTP on 50% of its territory by 2010. The last 50% will probably cost even more as there is a population density problem. ANd why is ATT spending $6B(and more for bellsouth territory) to bring FTTN to 50% by 2008.

You also have to answer why in 2000 cable modems and dsl were not the norm, yet today they both cover >80% of the population. During the same time prices have fallen and speeds have gone up. In 2000 i paid $80/month for IDSL(144k/144k) and today I pay $20/month for a 3m/1m connection.

You also have to knwo that during the same time frame cable pushed FTTN and will deploy docsis 3.0 and switch digital in the near future.

Broadband is getting cheaper and faster, it just takes a while to deploy to a large country with 300M residents. Investments are being made, they just take time.

This is only if you think, incorrectly, that internet is an essential service, then you are correct. Internet is NOT an essential.

They should stop advertising their service ANYWHERE as "unlimited" then, if they cannot actually provide that service. Download/upload caps are a lazy cop-out for upgrading the infrastructure. What, you need another Hummer H2? Suck it up and fix the network first, you fat-cats.
