That's truly amazing.

Can you explain why it has gone down so much for you personally?

I guess it depends on your definition of internet. Just about EVERY provider has DSL or cable access, 512k-756k down for < $25/mo. But of course you wouldnt know this, having not really looked into it.

Comcast - $19.99/mo
Verizon - $14.99/mo
Time Warner - $29.99/mo
Cox - $14.99/mo

These are just the major carriers. Are there a few places that dont have these deals? Sure, of course. Im sure youre one of them since you've already stated you live in the most expensive zip code in the country...well, based on your rants about services, food, and gas prices anyway.

But for the most part, MOST of the country can get high speed access for less than $25/mo.

That is cheap. Troll.

You're on drugs. You have no proof of that whatsoever.

Your comcast link is an introductory crap. What is it after the "offer" expires?

Dave seriously. WTF is wrong with you. I posted proof. If you want to know the rate after the promo why dont you try doing something different: reading instead of spewing crap out of your mouth...or keyboard as it were.

Seriously man. /boggle

I did. Your link only says after 6 months regular monthly charges and service charges apply. No where does it say what those charges are.

Dave, my God. You reallly suck at the internets. I mean really. When you say, and bolded no less, "no where", do you mean like here:

http://www.comcast.com/Shop/Buyflow/Default.ashx

It's $42.95/mo for last 6 months of a one year contract. That works out to 33.33/mo for one year.

Jesus man. you suck at life. It took me all of 2 minutes to find it.

How about the other links I provided? hmmm? Still think it's expensive for braodband?

I may suck at life but you suck at being a paid con artist.

Factoring in the 19.99 for the first six months.

Criminal on your part. You should be in Federal prison under RICCO.

Wow. More unsubstantiated claims. What a suprise. Modus operandi!

No wonder you suck at life. You ignore positives, and only focus on the negatives. And then, if that werent enough, you create conspiracy theories to back it up lol. And you cant even man up and face challenges.

Good luck with that.

As much as I dislike Dave it sucks to be out of work.

If he had half the skills he claims to have in telecom, there are a shitload of jobs all over. He would have to move, because Podunk, OK isnt exactly a telecom rich place, but shit...he could get a 50-70k/year job if he wanted one.

As I've previously said, lots of jobs in Phoenix (2nd fastest growing city for jobs in the country) and its fantastic here.

BTW your losing of your job doesnt have anything to do with your State of Georgia incident does it?

No that was 2000-2002.

It has to do with the upcoming announcment of thousands of Telcom jobs being axed.

Could be as high as 12,000.

Friggin troll post. AGAIN. Yet another unsubstantiated claim. Full of shit as usual.

How you get away with it is beyond me.

And since this is the internet thread, it's on topic to post that Hillary met with Wen Jiabao, China's premier, in Beijing last week to discuss implementing internet restrictions here in the US. Reports are that we will duplicate China's national firewall. Also, with all this talk of backbone carriers and the trouble with government spying, it is a prelude to said plans.

Just you wait. You'll get what you wish for.

Meanwhile, while you're trolling about death of the internet, the FCC is making the market less restrictive and more competitive. Kind of contrary to your claims. No suprise though is it.

FCC To Ban Exclusive Broadband Deals
New rules to be handed down on Wednesday...
10:24AM Monday Oct 29 2007 by Karl

For months, AT&T and Verizon have been asking the FCC to ban cable operators from maintaining exclusive service contracts with the owners of apartment buildings, developments and MDUs (multiple dwelling units). When the phone company asks for something, the FCC delivers: The Federal Communications Commission, hoping to reduce the rising costs of cable television, is preparing to strike down thousands of contracts this week that gave individual cable companies exclusive rights to provide service to an apartment building, the agency?s chairman says.

With their usual flair for leaks, the FCC's plans, to be clarified Wednesday, were known by the public weeks ago. Cable providers and landlords, meanwhile, argue that the FCC lacks the legal authority to intervene and that nothing is wrong with the current system. Cable operators have insisted that the deals bring consumers lower prices.

Consumers stuck in such cable arrangements usually don't agree. The smaller exclusive operators in particular have absolutely no competition and therefore no incentive to improve, so they frequently offer pricey services, few features and limited customer support.

Verizon, of course, is making a big push this year into the MDU market with FiOS, and last we checked, they had some exclusive deals of their own. Such deals are sometimes extreme; one development in Virginia is locked into an exclusive, decades-long service contract with an FTTH company residents say is unreliable and overpriced.

FCC To Ban Exclusive Broadband Deals
Thats great news to hear. When i first moved into my current apt I was presented an 'exclusive' offer in which i could get my cable, phone, internet through the apt complex through Cox (as in the apt complex had contracted with cox to provide all services to every unit and was charged a flat rate). As I had been used to just using my cell and over the air broadcasts I asked what if i declined - well it turned out that i would have no other options except for satellite for TV but DSL, Comcast, Verizon, etc were all out of the question and it almost sounded like I would be denied a lease if I didn't take the Cox package. So I haggled back and forth and finally was able to just get BASIC cable and internet (no phone) for $40/month but still seems like a ripoff/scam to me. Interested to see what this ruling really pans out with because I'd love to be able to say FU to my complex and have them stop charging me for stuff I hardly use.

There is a certain amount of pure deception Bait and switch here with units. Are we talking about BYTES or BITS. But at eight BITS to the BYTE, in theory a 56k Modem actually would deliver 424 KBits/sec down if one could get the maximum 53K Bytes/sec that the 56 KByte modem in theory could deliver. But in their advertising, the telco's always compare things with 28.8 KByte/sec modems that have been obsolete for eight years or so. And then denominate their service in the eight times larger KBit/sec size.

Then to add injury to insult, those user that have 56KByte/sec dial up modems who get more like an actual throughput of 25 to 40 Kytes/sec which would translate into 200- 320 KBits/sec, the telco's don't acknowledge the fact that the reduced speed is due to the excessive line noise in their lines. And if you don't get at least 25KBytes/sec actual throughput down, DSL is not going to do you a damn bit of good because the line noise will kill any benefits of DSL.

In short, given a good phone line and a 56K modem, 512-768 KBit DSL, is not even twice as fast as decent dial up. But if you want to save money using VOIP instead of landline phone paid long distance calling, that 2X is huge because it gets you over the usable hump. But beware of satellite internet access because upload latencies absolutely kill using VOIP.

dude, WTF!! kind of misinformation is that?!

56K modem is Kilobits/sec. Small b, bits. Add to that the asymetrical speed/nature of 56K technology and its even less actual throughput.

768 Kbs - notice small b, network/communications speeds are always specified in bits per second. That is AT LEAST 13 times faster than a 56Kbs modem. Add in modem overhead and the realistic throughput is more like 25 times faster than 56K dialup.

768 K is HALF OF A FREAKING T1. Do you have any idea what a T1 costs? Normally hundreds of dollars per month. So getting DSL at those speed for less than 100 a month is a freaking STEAL. To get it under 20 bucks per month is just the deal of the century.

This must make resident Pro-Business at all costs Republicans extremely dissapointed and angry.

Who will they be mad at, Democrats?

It ends a gravy train for them:

10-29-2007 .C.C. Set to End Sole Cable Deals for Apartments

WASHINGTON, Oct. 28 ?The Federal Communications Commission, hoping to reduce the rising costs of cable television, is preparing to strike down thousands of contracts this week that gave individual cable companies exclusive rights to provide service to an apartment building, the agency?s chairman says.

Commission officials and consumer groups said the new rule could significantly lower cable prices for millions of subscribers who live in apartment buildings and have had no choice in selecting a company for paid television.

The change, which is set to be approved Wednesday, is expected to have a particular effect on prices for low-income and minority families. They have seen cable prices rise about three times the rate of inflation over the last decade. A quarter of American households live in apartment buildings housing 50 or more residents, but 40 percent of households headed by Hispanics and African-Americans live in such buildings.

?Exclusive contracts have been one of the most significant barriers to competition,? Kevin J. Martin, chairman of the commission, said in an interview. Cable prices have risen ?about 93 percent in the last 10 years,? he said. ?This is a way to introduce additional competition, which will result in lower prices and greater innovation.?

The decision is the latest in a series of actions by the commission under Mr. Martin to put pressure on cable companies to lower their rates and make their markets more competitive.

Why, Dave? I'm a "Pro-Business" Republican, but I support removing these exclusivity deals. Competition is key in a free market.

Gawd, so do I. These deals suck. My apartment building had a 1-year exclusivity with company that was absolutely horrible. They charged a lot, used Dish, which would go out when somebody farted next to it. We are finally getting FIOS into the building.

Im glad things are gonna change.
