Internet Explorer is slow.

Have cable internet,2100+,512mb PC2700,GF4 Ti4200 and XP. IE is slow on some web sites including Anandtech. When I scroll down it scrolls slow. The web site pauses like a sec before is goes down. Its running like a 133mhz with broadband. Any ideas?

Check your temporary internet cache size. With larger hard drives and a default 10% for IE temp folder size, having to check a bigger cache can slow things down. Try making it smaller ...100 MB or so.

Got the latest drivers for everything. It mainly does it when I am inside a post. Also when I go to delete a whole sentence with backspace. If I hold it down instead of it deleting like its suppost to it acts like it locks up. Then a couple secs later the whole sentence will disappear(just according to how long I hold backspace down).

Also when I go to highlight something on this site it takes a couple secs before the word/sentence to highlight.

Games and stuff run great though.

BTW:making the cache smaller did nothing.

What os? xp/2k, check to see if you had msblast.d/nachi?

We've seen actively infected machines seem like they were unresponsive when in fact they were just busy sending out the worm. First thing we do is shut down the network connection and the machine become responsive within seconds.

do you have autocomplete on? that can cause problems

also you might have some third party browser plugin that's causing the problem. try scanning for spyware with adaware and spybot search&destroy

you could open task manager, and see what process is taking up your cpu cycles. that would likely give you a clue what is causing the problem.

You're not running Kazaa in the background are you. I had that problem but then I saw that Kazaa was taking up 100% cpu cycles.

What i meant, was that you should open the task manager, and then click on the processes tab. This will tell you how much cpu and memory resources are being used by each program. This should let you know what is going on. If you are using netscape or mozilla based browsers, your cpu load my be high if you begin to scroll a page that hasnt finished loading. I dont know why this happens, but i have experienced it mysefl.

good luck.

EDIT : duh, you are using ie, not mozilla . . . my bad. However, it might not be a bad idea to download the latest release of mozilla - it has more features than ie, including popup blocking. That could at least narrow down your search for problems.

Same thing happened to me. All of a sudden one day it did that, most noticeable on Anandtech and large posts like the one you linked, but on some other webpages too, but not all. Typing was very slow like you described. I put up with it for a month or two then formatted just recently and it hasn't done it since.
