For those who don't want to re-install their OS to fix something attached to it (ie. IE), you can reinstall right over top of the same OS directory (ie. C:\Windows or C:\WINNT) and it'll just replace the system files. Everything else should be intact.

Heh, I always say the problem is a loose nut behind the keyboard.

IE is flawless and rock solid for me, and has always been, be it AMD or Intel system. Smth wrong with your system. Maybe you need to reinstall... Mozilla is crap. It's widely known that it contains parasites.

Or it could be an id-10-t problem. :)

Seriously, try going to Control Panel/Add Remove Programs. Click on the listing for Microsoft Internet Explorer and click Add/Remove. You'll be presented with three options, one of which is Repair Internet Explorer. Try doing that and rebooting.

First of all, it's only listed if you've done a Windows Update and updated your version of IE for any reason. If it's not listed, that means that you've got the original install. There's nothing wrong with having it not listed in Add/Remove Programs, but if it's not there, just update IE. Maul, however, has IE 6.0 and doesn't have it listed (from our current AIM convo) which leads me to believe that he's got WinXP.

That said, there aren't any updates for IE yet, so it won't be listed in Add/Remove Programs. Thusly, he won't be able to do either of the three options. :)

Are ya usin' a cruddy nVidiot GeFarce card? IE 6 wouldn't play nice with me, either, 'till I got rid of my absolutely worthless GeForce3-Ti500 and replaced it with the far superior ATI RADEON 8500.

prolly something w/ windows and crap. but i use mozilla as well from a principle POV :) I still got run to IE when i hit a page that craps out, or if i'm doing something criticially important.. mozilla still isn't 100% there.. it just stops at some pages.. did it once for a checkout at a store.... luckily i was using a virtual account number so i just cancelled the number immidiately. i think it has somethign to do w/ the tabbed browsing (which is another big reason i'm stickin w/ it).

and since the forums here were fixed for the message box area.. works great. ESPECIALLY THE POP UP ADDS!!! pop up killer was nice, but their database had stuff w/ anandtech in it.. so i had to manually add stuff, which is anoying. some pop ups slip thru, but not much.

As for the mouse thing, what mouse are you using? I was using a logitech and it didn't work properly (setting to microsoft drivers worked, but lost my thumb button). I have foudn that ctrl+scroll to be better for me.. that and i ditched logitech for the ms explorer.. faster you spin the wheel, the faster it scrolls. really love the old blue optical logitech, but drivers have killed it for me (that and can't find it anymore.. hate the new stuff).

In addition to the built-in popup killer, I happen to really like the feature in Mozilla's tabbed browsing which allows you to middle-click any link to open it in a new tab. Very useful. I rarely use IE, because i just, well, hate IE.

when ie dies its a good indication your o/s needs to be reinstalled:p

ie runs fine for me, nice and fast:) and i can revert back to a clean ghost image pretty damn quick hehe, no trouble here! :)

if ie is cr@p, other browsers really blow. i use opera as my backup, but if u leave up for a while it eats up hundreds of megs for kicks.

going off topic here: why does everyone insist on referring to netscape as 'mozilla'?

So, the real question is... What odd applications, plug-ins, or new device drivers did you recently install that screwed up IE? Internet Explorer is plenty stable on it's own, but there are a lot of plug-ins, toolbar add-ons, and various spyware pieces of crap out there that can screw it up.

Hmm...I might have messed with it while playing with themes. I installed one called "Blackcomb" theme and it added a search bar at the top of IE, which I disabled and deleted.

Maybe IE is looking for it and crashing when it doesn't find it...but I doubt it. I don't have any of that crap enabled anymore. Once I saw how bloated it was, I got rid of it...
