My buddy has a problem with his "internal usb ethernet card" - man, is there even such a thing? to me it dosent make sense... USB are the ports on the back of ur mobo, with the other connections where u plug in ur mouse and keyboard, monitor etc. SO how can something USB be internal...... and if his ethernet card is internal it would had to be mounted into a PCI slot, righ? in which case you wouldnt need to hook it uo to a USB - man i dont know anything about networking but this dosent make sense.

Anyhow, when he gets into windows he dosent have his internet.... everything else (like OS) works perfectly. Appearently he has a DELL system.

Please help me with my confusion, and his frustration.
Thanks all

I've never heard of such a thing. I would say your friend is a bit confused ;). Probably he's got an internal Ethernet card (PCI), and he just threw in "USB" for some wow factor.

well, thats what i think. But he swears he has one. Actually its a friend of my friend. It just dosent make sense....

ohh ya another thing. i know this is not related to this forum buuuuuut the question is:
Can you disable onboard video card in BIOS? Can you even disable it?

My answer to that is no again, like u cannot disable you onboard sound card - not in BIOS at least, cuz that's where he is trying to disable it in. The only place i can think off is in DEVICE MANAGER....
Do they even make bouild in video card on mobos these days, i know they make ones with sound cards... i remember my old old computer had an ATI Mach 64 with 1meg of ram build in.... the only place i could disable it was in DEVICE MANAGER....

...again, am i crazy, or am i right. i wanna help him out but dont wanna go into the dark (cuz we'll get into an argument and i wount have any backup info).

May be what he has is an Internal PCI Cable or DSL modem.

Dell often install them into Bus. Systems.

Man you are sure confused...

<< Do they even make bouild in video card on mobos these days >>

A very fine example of such mobos are the very new nForce mobos.. onboard audio/video...

I have an ECS K7S5A .. and it has onboard Audio.. which I can disable from the BIOS...

Man, put some more detailed info regarding the mobo... so that people can answer it better...

i dont really have more detail. i am the 3rd party helping out, you guys are 4th. anyhow, although i am a bit confused i thought that the video card build in right into your mobo is long gone.... i mean no-one (that i know of) uses the build in features of a mobo.... we all use seperate vid cards and sound cards....

anyhow, can someone answer the other question i had. Can u disable ur build in into ur mobo vid card in BIOS?

ill try to get some more detail out of him

k this is what he has (i think). He has a Calbe connection with an external model. A cable with an RJ45 jack going into a "thing" that converts the signal and feeds it down a USB cable to his USB port. So if thats possible than his ethernet card is useless (which appearently he tried to migrate into this process), but why are we braking our heads over this if he could just use that ehternet card directly. Just plug in his cable going from the external modem to the ethernet card and presto. Appearently ha has like a P2 333 or something like that, which meas that he must have PCI slots.....

ill keep u guys posted....sorry for the quessing game, but i know as much as u do :)

He has a USB ethernet adapter. My friend has one. Either your friends' is broken or he needs to re-install his network setup.

ok thanks.... i called it the "thing" cuz he didnt have a good name for it :)
anyhow if he sets up his network then he should have it working? The thing is that when he boots to windows then he dosent have the internet, buuuut when he unplugs his USB and then plugs back in, its working "appearenly" perfectly. I said maybe he has a foulty cable or USB port. But maybe it may be somehting else.

thanks for ur help guys
