AFAIK the rest of Illinois managed to stop Shitcago from pushing an assault weapons ban on the rest of the state. So as of right now I believe you can buy an AR-15 just like I can buy here in Texas. You just have to register yours on an FOID (so they know where to come confiscate it when they make them illegal.)
You can buy an AR-15 at any gun shop, or gun show, and probably even some pawn shops. Or just check the Equipment Exchange on AR15.com.
And I have about $70k worth of guns. My reasoning? Zombies.

ARs are totally legal here, as with pretty much anything considered an "assault weapon" under the law. No NFA weapons though.
You only have to fill out an application and send a photo into the State Police and they just run the NCIC and check the state's record system. After 6-8 weeks of lazy state employees using your app as napkin they'll issue the ID which is good for 5 years. You don't have to register firearm purchases.
I do happen to know where all the FOID master records are kept and that their storage isn't fireproof.

Well, the IOR optics alone are gonna cost you $1,000.
$85 for the YHM flip down front sight.
$244 for the buttstock
$615 for a basic stag arms left handed 20" upper. Note, this is without the free floating barrel, just a basic A3 setup in left hand.
$140 for a lower reciever, doesn't have to be a stag, just something that does not come with a buttstock.
$24 for the flash hider
About $80 for the BUIS
$150 for the GG&G scout riser
$300 for the GG&G exteme duty bipod
$170 for the ARMS PEQ rail
$30 for the CAA grip
Around $300 for the PRI free-floating handguards.
This is all not counting the free-floating of the barrel, and all of the other gunsmithing work that would be needed to get that exact rifle (more or less) made. Lets assume that you could do all of that work yourself, and already had the tools to do it.
That rifle would then cost you around $3,300 to build, just off of the top of my head. The real chunk of cash is the optics and the left handed upper. If you could live with aimpoint or EOtech optics, and do with a standard right handed upper you could cut $1,100 off of that rifle.
You consider 6 figure incomes 'middle class'??? Holy hell do we have a different world view.
My weapons are inherited, or fairly cheap for the most part. I think the most expensive rifle I own was only about $700.
$100k is considered middle class in some areas, but $300k is not. You're either dillusional or a troll. Median income + 15-30k is more or less middle class.

hahahahah. Only 7-8% of the population has income in the six figures. I've got news for you, that's the textbook definition of upper class. By way of comparison there are 5 people with incomes under 20k for every 1 with income in the six figures.

I have a rifle or two and a shotgun. They haven't been used in a year or so and I'm not sure when they will be used again.
I understand the 'hobby' aspect, but at what point is it just an obsession with an object of power?
Nebor claims he has $70,000 worth of firearms, which I'm not sure is true based on previous armament lists he has provided. Even so, unless he is an antique gun collector or a Blackwater contractor, what is the deal with that? Seriously $70,000, even for a cop that is quite a bit. But whatever floats your boat.
Hopefully when Iran or China invades us these sole proprietor militias will kick some serious ass.

I have a rifle that I inherited from my grandfather (which was originally purchased by my great-grandfather) that is worth that much alone. Holland & Holland double rifle made in 1914, in .375 H&H (called the .375 Belted Rimless Nitro Express back in those days). I have shot it once, but other than that it stays in the safe at all times. It is still in extremely good condition though, and if I would consider using it to hunt with. Still perfectly safe to shoot, but that is a family heirloom that I do not want to introduce to modern loadings or handloads too much.
There is another I got from him that is worth 10-11k if I were to sell it now. Original shiloh sharps model 1874 rifle.
That is not even counting my M16 lower that I bought myself. Probably the most expensive hunk of aluminum I have ever bought.
We "sole proprietor militias" will kick even more ass if anyone decides that our hobby isn't legal anymore. Voting from the rooftops FTW.

I view weapons like tools, so I buy utility weapons. Not too costly but good enough quality to get the job done. I don't buy guns just for the sake of owning something, I'm not a collector and as much as I'd like a zombie war to happen, unfortunately it never will, so I just own what I need for home defense and hunting (but my hunting guns are at my folks place in the States, since I can't hunt here in Mexico). The nice thing about guns is that they last forever and are just as useful as they ever were, so it's not like you have to update or upgrade them.

It looks cool, but if your gearin up a rig like that you need a better barrel. My was $500 alone, then the rest of the rifle.
Honestly, drop the fancy handguard and overpriced optic.
Grab a Nikon scope, JP trigger and a good barrel and you've got a gun that'll shoot like a house on fire if you get some good ammo and do your part.
I wasn't really planning on spending $1000 for an optic, I was just curious as to what was on it.

i must have missed that memo... i own an old 22, a 9mm ruger P89 and a SKS. all have been made fun of here.not one cost me more than 300 bucks. but then again, im a cheap bastige.
