About 10% of the French population is Muslim, yet Muslims represnt more that 50% of the prison population.

So, are the French racist, or do Muslims just commit a disprprotionate amount of crimes?

It's interesting that Europe is one of leading breeding ground for militants.

If you want to play statistical games with prison populations why go all the way to France? Look no further than your own back yard. The USA has the world's largest prison population and the statistics by race and offence boggle the mind.

These are only Federal Bureau of Prisons statistics. When state and local populations are included the total prison population in the USA is nearly 2 million. The majority of inmates are doing time for drug offenses.

Check out the percentage of white collar crimes in comparison.

And let's not even get started on the USA being the only modern industrialized nation with the death penalty still on the books. Onward Christian soldiers. Defend the rights of the unborn then fry them once they reach 18.

I take it by the wink that you are kidding. There are >25% more Muslisms in prison in France than blacks in the US even though Muslims represent a smaller fraction of the population.

If you consider that equivalent, I'd love to barter with you.
 
a) If someone commits a crime, they are going to serve a sentance, no matter the race.

b) any proof that white french get easier sentances or do not get picked on for similar crimes?

c) Being Muslim is a religion. It's not a racial thing. How do you know that these muslims are not white. Prisons typically have a lot of converts and islam is one of the world's most popular...esp in a multicultural society like france.
 
Europe has the same problems, especially France and Germany, as USA has. The minority's are isolated, and not integrated, some of them don't even speak the local language. This makes them the target ethnicity crime. The reason so many people are in prison, is because people in france/germany are not racist, they're trying to hard not to be racist, because what i've just said they feel is racist. It's the same problems black people have in the US, being a minority living in ghetto's. Both germany and france have, in repectedly prais and berlin i think, isolated groups of more htan 1 million muslims and foreigners living cut off from the local customs and such. Yes, it is a problem. It is a very big problem.

Allthough i agree with you that this is something that needs to be discussed, there are very few, if any, french people in here, so discussing it wouldn't really help, and you don't really have any idea how it is. Discussing american topics however makes very much sense. Since you, and allmost everybody in here, are american.


According to that stat, and taking into account thatUS has approx 300mill citizens, and france has approx 100mill (i have no idea how exact that is, but fairly i imagine) you should have around 150k prisoners. You have 2 million.
