Interesting Firefox/YouTube issue

I've noticed that certain (not all) YouTube videos can only be "played through" in Firefox; in other words, you can't skip forward to a later part of the video. Attempts to do so either halt playback altogether or restart playback from the beginning. Same issue doesn't exist in Chrome.

XP and FF at work, no problems jumping around in that video.

What exactly are you afraid of them having? What do you think they take from you? Do you really care if they have your address? Do you really think that they collect bank account numbers and pins and stuff?

The whole "giving google personal information" is one of the dumbest arguments I have ever heard and it always has been.

I am not surprised at all that you are a FireFox user.

Keep rolling those eyes. If he doesn't want to feed to Google machine, that's his right, and he doesn't owe you or anyone else an explanation. That's the great thing about being a free individual. You're allowed to make your own decisions without any other reason than because that's the way you want it.

As to Firefox being bloated. It uses fewer resources than Chrome, and is competitive in every aspect. Is it faster? Who gives a shit? None of the browsers are faster except the one that is. When you have more than one different item, there's one that will be $greater_featured and another that will be $lesser_featured. The only thing that matters is it suits the individual that uses it.

Nobody's forcing him to change browsers. Nobody has a gun to his head so stop acting like someone does.

The best part about using Chrome instead of FF is because the people that make FF are stupid enough to let memory leaks go unfixed for years and years and years. Sure, that's fixed now, but I have zero faith in them based on past experience.

I've used Firefox since before it was called Firefox, and have never had a memory leak. My browser is often open days at a time with zero problems. I can't account for the thousands of addons that may interact poorly with the browser, but mine never had an issue, and that isn't Mozilla's problem. Also, there's thousands of addons ;^)

Not possible. 2.5 through, what, 2.8? 2.9? Something like that, had a massive memory leak. Denying it is denying a common knowledge problem that was a real bug that was widely discussed and was openly ignored for many, many releases.

I can only affirm my experience. I've never had a runaway memory leak, and that includes using it on memory constrained systems(1gb or less ram)

Burying my head in the sand? Lets just say for the sake of argument Firefox used all my memory, and killed random kittens. If the browser, and my computer worked as expected, why would it matter? Ram usage is irrelevant if things work as expected, because that's what a computer is made to do, work. If you're using a computer to monitor the free space in your ram, you're doing it wrong.

That's making a hell of an argument though, because I would notice all my ram being used, especially on my netbook, which has a drive slower than a cheap flash drive. Swapping would have made it virtually unusable. That's awesome that Google has search results supporting your premise. Google will find somebody whining about anything, including free money. Just because something's posted on the internet, it doesn't make it a universal fact.

Seriously, google FireFox and the memory leak. I made the head-in-the-sand comment because you're basically writing off a major issue or claiming that it's irrelevant or is a figment of the imagination of some whiny user.

Fail. I don't care if google wants or gets all my personal information. At least they make a superior browser that doesn't have major issues, did things right the first time, and gets fixed in a very timely manner when something does arise. :awe:

Please post online a list of all items your purchase, and all websites you visit. Everything.
Just think about what that would entail, and think about how long it might take before you find something that you don't want people knowing about. Not a long time, I bet.

Easy example:
Have kids under 10? Have pictures of them in swimsuits? Have information about where they like to play? Maybe areas where they might be out of sight briefly?

Have a house or apartment? Are there times when you're usually not there? Oh look, searching for deadbolts and "replacing a broken deadbolts," and then buying one at Amazon. Sounds like a nice house to visit.

Any interesting medical conditions that someone might want to know about? Maybe a potential employer? Medical or life insurance rep, or someone who knows someone?


Finding things that you want to keep secret isn't an "if" situation. It's just a matter of time and a tiny bit of scrutiny.


And it's not as if an organization that's collecting immense amounts of information about people would ever dream of abusing that power. Right? Right??

Ehh I have more memory issues with chrome as it needs more at start and always seems to use more as time goes on then FF but then again I don't run 20+ tabs on either and try keeping it to 5 and under in most cases.

Plus I hate how chrome places new tabs in the wrong spot and doesn't place them after the old tabs like a sane browser does not to mention adblock always has sucked for chrome compared to FF not to mention some other minor things like how their search button sucks compared to others or how they sort history although any sane man will keep that clear. :sneaky:

This isn't a Firefox issue, it is a flash issue. I've had that problem on different browsers, with different players.
