He works as an IT manager at a scrap junkyard.
Some interesting things that he said:
- some cars are worth in parts than it is as a whole, but of course they will never give you the total price in parts, thats where they make their money. Volvos are very good examples.
- It seems that they are almost bottom feeder like in their business practices. He told a story how a guy sold them an almost brand new toyota tundra (with less than 10k miles) for $10k just because he needed to pay bail!
- a lot of passion/hate crime happened. He got a classic car for $100 and then got it appraised for $100k. The reason why he got it so cheap? because the original owner hated how his son disrepected his car and drove it without his permission! Also a lot of cars gets sold by a person because his/her spouse cheated on her/him
- A lot of shady stuff goes on in the car dealerships (even those with prominent names). Often times they buy parts from these junkyards and charge the customer new prices for them.
- An even bigger scam is how dealerships would buy speedometers (the whole instrument cluster) and replace cars with high mileage so that they have lower mileage. He said almost all dealerships do this, even the famous ones.
- I didnt even ask him if he deals with stolen cars.. but I am not surprised if he does..
- he said no one should EVER buy used cars from enterprise.. he said they are the shadiest in terms of car maintenance or repairs
