Millions of people on facebook use their own name. What makes forums different? Other than trying to be a total jackass to people under the veil of anomnimity...which is actually an illusion because a Moderator can and will track you down if needed.
facebook is different. you can actually enable it so no one can search for you by name. also, you can make it so it's private and only people you have approved of can see what you post or pictures you might put up.

I do agree that some people use their anonymity to be the jacktards that they never would be to anyone in the real world, but these are the same people who will sign up under a false name and continue to be jerks.

do you think you could track me down?

I bet /b could :^P

I'm easy to track down. If someone was inclined, they could almost track my complete online career, and much of my offline. I purposely do that for accountability. Keeps honest people honest ;^)

Sounds like a challenge! (that I would fail)

On a side note, I did do a google search on "moshquerade" and found the urbandictionary listing for it. I had no idea it was a "real" word, and thus I lol'd heartily.

you know there is a way to enable emoticons so you can click on them in the right side bar and put them in posts. ;)

And I'm honest as the day is long. I had someone track me down once, call me, and scare the hell out of me that he was going to show up. I'd like not to get in that predicament ever again.

Me, probably not. The admins(which I probably should have worded originally) would have more information and persuassive powers to the ISP's if needed.

And in the case of Warcraft, if it's tied to a paying account in some way, then there will almost always be a trail that can be followed.

I use ASCII emoticons on purpose. I started cause some site's emoticons suck, and I now consider it a part of my online writing style :^P

If you had a set you would
This alias is much cooler. I use it on several other sites. I'm not hard to find off this site.

it is an opt-in choice to use the realID both ingame and in parental controls, so disabling the function makes it so you can not post on the forums (in the parental controls case). there is already an exploit addon that makes your realID name visible whether you opt-in or not, using an exploit where it requires you to be on your own friend list.

i enjoy a good level of anonymity, but not so i can be an asshat online. i just have a thing for keeping my online areas separate from my work and home lives.

Repost and wrong forum.

KT

I really don't think that it's a "wrong forum" kinda thing. As it's more of a discussion of online forum practices rather than gaming.

And I don't say that because I started the thread. If anyone else had started it in OT I'd leave it be too.

This won't impact me one way or another - and back when I played WoW I wish the forums had some more accountability so I think I would have been for this to some extent. I don't know why Real Name - and not just an account set type name but I guess they thought this would be best.

do you think you could track me down?

Oh how I wish.

Actually... I wonder if I would have made that comment if it was my real name and your real name on the forums. It'd probably look (even more) creepy then.

That's fine, even though I disagree, but there is already a 200+ post thread in PCG.

Do tell. Never could figure out how to select/choose emoticons since the move to vbulletin.

Eh, my NAME is pretty uncommon, but there are some things related to it that would surely make things a little difficult for someone who doesn't know how to refine a search.
