LOL imagine the outrage if all that money got funneled into a Intel based US fab program, as subsidies.
An Intel stock owners wet dream.
Intel stock owners wet dream is if china blocks Taiwan export route Intel will shoot to the moon 🤣.
Grandma will be happy watching from heaven.

If this was the logic Apple would never have went to TSMC even TSMC had released broken process in the past

I disagree. Apple went to TSMC because they could get what they wanted at a price that worked for them. The problem Intel is having right now is that they can't offer something customers want, even if the price might be acceptable (at this point, Intel would probably be happy to break even with IFS as long as they had customers for 18A).

They do offer one thing a leverage over TSMC with a bit of risk that's up to them otherwise be happy and pay 50% more for 15% more PPA with A14 also a second source.
Customer's Choice in the end

there haven't been any stock buyback since 2021
Yeah... that was their FAFO moment. 2021 was the year when they realised that having a fab is no longer a competitive advantage;
Intel will enable a fully vertical model with its IP portfolio, allowing customers to choose from x86 cores, graphics, media, display, AI, interconnect, fabric, packaging, and other critical foundational IP from other sources (such as Arm, RISC-V). The exact way in which customers will be able to license the IP will be announced in due course, but if Intel were to follow the Arm model, then Intel customers will get access to Intel’s 86 core designs.

Intel today will have partnership announcements with Cadence and Synopsys to enable industry standard design tools (EDA tools) and workflows such that customers can use industry standard process development kits (PDKs) to build their silicon designs. This is part of the job that some of Intel’s hires have recently been enabling, such as Renduchintala, Keller, and Koduri. Intel is committing to embracing the entire EDA ecosystem to ease new customers into the use of Intel’s foundry tools.

edit: oh wow... they have killed all the Anandtech articles... pffft... :(

Looks like he's been unable to right the ship and has been ultimately ousted.

What do you think the future of Intel will look like?

Source:

This thread has been moved to P&N due to some posters responding to its political components. P&Ners, please don't comment on the move, just the substance of the situation. CPUs and Overclocking members, welcome to the wider world we all live in these days.

Things like this are always strange to me. The company I worked for had a display products line. We made systems for the government, but we almost never used our own displays in the contract because they cost too much.

CPU crew is all of the sudden being shy. Get your asses in here and talk all the political bullshit you want. Most of you should be getting alerts for this thread.
The political commentary seemed to already be winding down and under control before the move of the thread to P&N. I don’t really understand the logic for that one, when the sitting US President is calling specifically for the Intel CEO to be ousted of course we kind of need to discuss it somewhat in the “Intel’s future” thread. I think in general the thread will die here

Personally, I agree with you completely, but we received multiple complaints in Reported Posts. There is simply a not insignificant number of posters in the tech fora who have demanded a strict "no politics whatsoever, please" policy. Indeed, it's why P&N was created in the first place in the wake of 911. Our membership demanded it.

I do believe "times have changed" so, collectively we will try our best to square this circle going forward.

politics is all technology's backdrop.... all modern IT was developed under the guise and funding of western capitalism. computer code is in english. Bell labs, UNIX. et cetera, et cetera...

decades of inflationary never-ending-growth stonks-to-the-moon economic policies. outsourcing of every kind of factory to extreme-low-wage countries while West reaps the benefits. suicides at foxconn. slave labour. tens of thousands of kids in congo mining cobalt, multiple deaths and health hazards.

all of the above is slowly shifting. the world is awakening and realizing the huge divine global north / global south, west and east.

all that, with the apparent ultimate aim of Silicon Valley et al to build superintelligence. Tens of thousands of computer science graduates are unable to find jobs, no matter how talented, even from MIT etc which were guaranteed golden tickets to 6 figure salaries. Stories like "MIT graduate applying to 6000 jobs without success". The tech world is abandoning junior positions because AI is already able to do 95% of a junior's role with ease, swiftly, barely any cost. Junior positions are already automated. From countless "LEARN CODE" initiatives globally, to total silence. Meanwhile every related CEO boasting about AI providing so much productivity increase and revenue increase (mass layoffs). Companies aggressively trying to replace support with AI, inventing strategies to deflect and avoid backlash.

Basically the apparent aim of Western technology, AI/superintelligence, is eating the world, eating humanity already.

All sci-fi allegories of robots uprising against humanity... it's already here. Humanity is eating humanity by use of literally chatbots to increase fictional numbers.

Intel got ruined by a whole decade of profit-seeking capitalists rebranding chips, undermining R&D and heavily undermining competitors whenever they could. AMD fought hard, invested in R&D and is now eating away Intel's market. Intel's future is a direct result of its aggressive profit-seeking actions in detriment of others, as well as the global shift in society's awareness on global economics and labour.

Trump is the Joker, the unpredictable element in a world of hedge funds and quants algorithms which relied on predictability. At the same time, he strongly takes the side of mega-rich and killers.

Who knows what happens tomorrow? Is Trump a friend or an enemy of humanity? Will Trump out-Trump himself?

two years of probation and ordered to pay a fine of more than $34,000

TBH slap on the wrist

$34000 = few months salary for US bigtech employee
super secret sauce = priceless

it's like he knew he'll pay from 0 to 50k for super secret sauce and a blackmark on his record

and possibly earned more from the deal? lol

Let me start by saying that Intel should migrate everything from israel to Ukraine. Those people are studious and they have more morals than any israeli could ever hope for. Support the right people and they will give back in spades!
Hahahah!

Not sarcastic? You serious? Because I'd put them on equal ground. I don't care about being PC by the way.

45, so one year older than me. That makes him a goat (Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Satya Nadella etc.) and he knew exactly what he was doing. These people are very shrewd. They operate on the thin line between legal and illegal. When confronted, they will straight away lie that they thought they weren't doing anything illegal. They have a knack for being good at investing and building their future one step and one day at a time. It's not unheard of for these people to amass a lot of wealth and in real life, they are annoying hagglers. My ex-managing director is a goat. He would even object on the few dollars difference of replacing the tap in the washroom and opt for the cheaper one, even though it was the company's money. When my company was sold to the current owners, he got a nice payout of $3.5 million on top of the already lavish $240K salary. These people have no qualms about screwing you over if they think they can get away with it.

Didn't Intel have a "war chest" of billions and billions of dollars?

What happened?
Pat Gelsinger and gang spent most of it like there was no tomorrow.

I sure would love to know the cost of the defective Raptor Lake re-imbursements/replacements. Has to be a cool billion at least.

@511 don't you dare deflect by speaking ill of previous CEOs. This was ALL Pat. He had the key to Intel's kingdom and he ran it as he saw fit.
