To the standard home user, they won't be able to tell any difference between even an 80gb G2 and the 64gb SNV425. Have used both, and they are indistinguishable in everyday usage.

Agreed!
I had a first Gen Kingston (SNV225-S2 V+), an 80gb Intel G2, and now the Phoenix Pro in my sig.....really can't tell any real world difference. My old Kingston didn't have TRIM, and that is the only reason I switched to the G.Skill (+ space).

I still think the new Kingstons (w/ TRIM) are an amazing deal. I know everyone loves the cheap Intel 40gb, but the Kingston has 62 percent more space for the same or less money.

I'm not sure it's the "standard home user" that's really purchasing these at this point, anyway.

That said, I'm sure your point still stands. Most people may not realize the difference in speed.

However, I think it's safe to say the Intels are much more reliable units and the number of controller issues on the Intel units is significantly lower. That's not to say it's not a good deal or worth it to try the Kingtsons. It does need to be stated, however, and why I'd likely choose Intel over Kingston in this case.

$30 gift card dead? I just got a promo for american express for 40 credit if i spend 200 at Best Buy or bestbuy.com - would have made a killer deal.

Are these speeds correct??

These or on BB website.

70 Mbps for a read speed??

"Data transfer rates up to 3 Gbps
For speedy updates and connections. Write speeds up to 250 Mbps and read speeds up to 70 Mbps."

Looks like numbers as swapped between read and write and have Mbps instead MBps (Should be Megabytes, not Megabits). Somehow Intel SSDs are rather slow in sequentual writes but this speed is not that important. Most disk operations on a PC have random access pattern. seems like a good deal, how many gigs are actually available after formatting though? And my Windows 7 partition is much bigger than 40 gigs, is there any simple way to drop one of these SSD's in and xfter just your Windows 7?

37.2GB for 40GB drive
74.5GB for 80GB drive

I cloned my XP drive with Acronis True Image - it does not matter what size of partition is, it matters how much of it was in use. As long as it is less than 37.2GB, you're good.

I picked up one of these as my first ssd because I had some old BB gift cards to burn. After format it's 37.2GB and after win7 and all my programs I have 19GB free. A great little ssd boot drive.
