damn it. I wish they had this a month ago before I got a 30 gig ssd.
Oh well maybe the 80 gig will get cheaper towards Christmas, and I'll have an excuse to use up my BB GCs.

G3 will be introduced in Q4 - this is basically a clearance sale... Don't feel bad.

I just purchased one there a few days ago for 30 dollars more. I wonder if they'll give me a partial refund? It's not past 30 days yet... I could just return it and buy another one if they hassle me.

Yeah, they will. Just bring your receipt and they'll hand you the refund. I did the same thing with a monitor I bought a few months ago.

I installed this last night - great drive. Seems faster than my OCZ Vertex 30GB it replaced. My Windows Experience score jumped from 7.3 - 7.7 (lol.)

I haven't done any real benchmarking, but the drive is definitely as snappy as my Vertex, and I gained another 10GB of breathing room. :)

Thx OP for the heads up.

Can you even install a useable OS on less than 40GB these days? Great deal, but I'm going to hold out for Black Friday.

40gb is plenty for a boot device and a little xtra for some apps even with Win7.

Hmm....Tempted to pick up the 40gb and move to boot then use my 60gb for apps and 1tb for storage :D

fyi, Newegg just dropped the X-25V to the same price.

I was sold on the X-25V for a new build, until I saw the new Corsair Force F40. However, despite the better all around performance, I'm not certain if it surpasses the Intel on read performance, which is what I'm in search of (boot drive).

Anyone else in the same boat?

OK I gave in and dropped by my local Best Buy and picked up the 40gb model to use as my new boot drive. :)

Gonna move my 60gb OCZ Agility as my apps drive and use my 1tb hitachi for storage.

Can anyone comment on how the X-25V that's part of this deal stacks up to the Corsair Force F40 and Agility2 60GB, as a boot drive?

Picked up a 80GB for my wife and ordered a 160GB for myself. I'm pretty jazzed about it! Now I just have to wait for that damn order to come in for the 160GB. They're all sold out everywhere in Austin, TX.

Is the 40Gb Intel X-25V head and shoulders above, performance wise, against the Kingston SNV425-S2/64GB, which is currently on sale at NewEgg for $94 after rebate?

I don't think its going to be head and shoulders. The 40GB Intel isn't known for stunning performance, SSD wise. I just used the Kingston last night in an Ubuntu build, very pleased with the performance.

Not as pleased with all the hoops required to get over with 10.04 LTS and TRIM, however. Needs a freaking newer kernel :(

yes... if you are buying an ssd for absolute performance...

if you want a solid drive that won't crash when you drop your laptop, the kingston is ok...

and the 80 was the deal with the rz 12 pct off coupon this week...

Really? What are you basing that off of? The 40GB Intel drive stinks it up in sequential write speed, like I would expect the 32GB version of this Kingston to do because of having too few NAND channels.

Do you have information to back that up? I am genuinely curious and my earlier research really only turned up the 128GB Kingston drive that showed itself to be quite competent if not as fast as the new Indilix and SanForce controllers, both of which rather routinely beat down on the smaller Intel drives.

MMM, found it:

http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.p...sk=view&id=328&Itemid=60&limit=1&limitstart=8

Still a lot faster than a velociraptor, and I haven't noticed any stuttering or fall off on EXT4 myself, but not the fastest drive ever. Still impressed the crap out of the guy I built it for :)

the one he mentions is not the new + version... no trim support, older controller... i have no direct experience with it, but heard a couple people grouse that it had less than optimal seat of the pants performance...
