Impressed by the application performance, Core i7-8700K is leading more often than not compared to Ryzen 7 1800X here, and that's before OC. CB R15 MT score higher than previous leaks @ 1521 pts (though something is up with 8600K's result). Out of the games they tested Tomb Raider saw the most significant bump, 20% faster than Core i7-7700K.

Everyone keeps repeating that 8700K will beat the HEDT chips with regards to OC. What is the rationale for concluding this? I certainly hope its the case since Intel yet again has failed to appeal to me with their HEDT platform, but I'm surprised that everyone keeps saying that an unreleased chip is going to be a "beast".

Intel claims manufacturing process improvement for Coffee over Kaby and Kaby clocks higher than Skylake-X.

Why isn't the extra cache helping with IPC and ST scores? From the reviews so far it seems like this has worse ST than the 7700k and worse productivity than the 7800X.

This is really disappointing, especially the Cinebench MT being lower than the 1600X.

CB always favours AMD (it's why they throw that around 24/7) so I wouldn't read into that particular one.

Multiple people were saying that this would match the 1700 in MT and would "surely" beat the 1600 and 1600X. It doesn't do any of that.

They also said it would have better IPC and ST than the 7700K... which is also doesn't have.

Seems quite disappointing to me...

Look higher to me? What am I missing?

Here you go. Maybe that will cheer you up a bit ;)

Until proper reviews in English come out of course

I wonder if the crazy 5.2Ghz overclocks from chinese forums people keep throwing around will turn out to be more intel viral marketing too. Seems like the plan now is to fake people into believing their products are better than they are by releasing extremely rare engineerings samples to overclockers and having them fake huge overclocks.

I will be very interested to see if the 9870XE truly can run at 4.5Ghz on water or if that was more fakery.

193/1410 is not higher ST than the 7700k or higher MT than the 1700/1600X.

For what its worth...

Granted this is by far the highest CB score I've seen for the 8700K, I'll wait for official reviews before making final judgement. Also something is definitely amiss with the 8600K score, there is no way a similarly clocked 6C/6T chip should lose to a 4C/8T chip in CB.

Coming at a power consumption price!

I'm assuming that these results are at stock clocks, so OCed ought to be interesting.

Is intel going to bundle a 1000W power supply with each processor? They claim it is overclockable... seems like they should warn people about this.

Toms & Anand both have their reviews up, strangely no power or temp reading at Toms like the last time with 7900x ~ http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/intel-core-i9-7960x-cpu-skylake-x,5238.html

I expected them to revise their reviews with actual temps and power consumption. So they are not planning on doing that?

I guess we will have to wait until somebody reputable gets their hands on the chip and gives us real numbers. Right now it's just marketing spin with people reviewing the chip and claiming it's great... but providing no numbers.

It sounds like Toms and Anandtech should know these numbers but something is stopping them from telling us how hot and how much power this behemoth draws...

I'll wait for reputable reviews from Anandtech and Toms, thanks.

Tom Logan is one of the best and most unbiased reviewers on the planet, mind you. Pure trolling and I'm finding your replies on this page nothing short of trying to downplay it; your comments are boring me to death. Go play in the AMD delusion threads. 'ignore'

They are fine all round chips, should be at that price, but the temps are still a major concern.

7980xe draws less power than 1950x when both are at stock. When both are overclocked, 1950x to 4.0GHz and 7980xe to 4.5GHz, it still draws less power...

Yeah but AMD has got the best price/performance... Oh no wait, I meant to say that the lower draw is very significant!! :p
