That CPU package shot suggests GT3e.

I hope you're right. :)

Also a new product: Surface Book
28W Skylake-U or Skylake-H?
Fastest 13'' laptop ever made
2 more processors than Macbook Pro
2x faster than the Macbook Pro
NVIDIA dGPU
12-hours battery life
1.6 pound, 7.7mm thick

Apple is chasing them with the iPad Pro, now M$ is after the Macbooks.

I think I will go for the i5/8GB/256GB SP4 model. Was thinking on 16GB, but again its a laptop/tablet.

Seems the Surface Book will be bought in droves at the workplace. The PCIe switch between the 2 sections and detachable is smart.

that surface book looks amazing. hoping my employer buys me that :D

read this on windows central - "The Surface Book has the latest generation of Intel's NVIDIA GeForce GPU, and Microsoft worked with its Xbox team to tune graphics performance"

haha

On to the specs, I think we will see:

Core m3-6Y30 - 2C/4T
900MHz base & 2.2GHz Turbo
4.5W TDP, cTDP up 7W
HD Graphics 515

Core i5 6200U - 2C/4T
2.3GHz base & 2.8GHz Turbo
15W TDP
HD Graphics 520

The safest bet for the Core i7 model is:
Core i7 6560U / 6650U - 2C/4T
2.2GHz base & 3.2GHz / 3.4GHz Turbo
15W TDP
Iris - HD Graphics 540 (64MB eDRAM)

Now marketing is marketing but M$'s claim of 50% faster than Macbook Air is interesting.
Are they talking about CPU, iGPU performance?

When they say the Surface Book is 2x as fast as the Macbook Pro they were (probably) talking about graphics performance. What about Surface Pro 4 vs Macbook Air 2015?

Fastest 2015 Macbook Air includes Core i7-5650U, a Broadwell 2C/4T with GT3 (but no eDRAM) @ 2.2-3.1GHz. 50% faster graphics would be an impressive bump at the same TDP (both 14nm).

Unless they were talking about CPU and there's a 28W Core i7 6567U inside (perhaps cTDP down to 23W). 3.3GHz base and 3.6GHz Turbo.

Microsoft's webpage also says the Core m3 model is lighter:

M3: 766 grams
i5: 786 grams
i7: 786 grams

Fanless? If there is a cooler in there I hope they choose cTDP up to improve performance.

I think I will go for the i5/8GB/256GB SP4 model. Was thinking on 16GB, but again its a laptop/tablet.

I think this will be one of the most popular models.

I see no mention of GT3e on MS site, only Iris (while GT3e should be Iris Pro, no?). They only talk about "6th Gen Intel® Core™ M3, i5, or i7" and "M3: Intel® HD graphics 515 / i5: Intel® HD graphics 520 / i7: Intel® Iris™ graphics"
https://www.microsoft.com/surface/en-us/devices/surface-pro-4#techspec-block

Did I miss something?

Yup, the fact that all Iris & Iris Pro (GT3/GT4) models include eDRAM now.

There is no 2C+GT3 (sans eDRAM) SKU, only 2C+GT3e.

They said in the presentation that it will start at $899.
Let's wait and hope that they starts with Core M or Core i5... if they starts with i3... no thanks

Starts with worse chip.. M3... ok, let's ... forget that exist that model and the true one starts at i5u

Does anyone know when the Core i7 version of Surface Pro 4 will be available?
I've read November somewhere. That would be better than the Q1-2016 we were expecting for Iris/Iris Pro Skylake.

According to the Microsoft site, I7 versions ship in late-mid November unless you opt for the 1 TB hard drive. The 1 TB model is TBD.

It should be a very nice package, but too rich for my blood. Only way I could see getting this is if you have money to burn or your company is doing it for you. I bet those prices don't include the type cover either.

$400 premium for upgrade to 512 GB from 256 GB. Reasonable.
MS practically went way worse than Apple this time... I smell a DOA this time.

It's official...
I7 U
16 GB
1 TB SSD

At the price of... US$ 2699...

for $2600 I could get an amazing laptop that would smoke that Surface.
for $2600 I'd rather build my HEDT i7 rig.

These are pretty rad, but price for what I want just doesn't make any sense.
