That doesn't seem to tell us what we need to know, though. Namely power consumption info.
Power consumption is limited by power management via package power. If you set it to 35W, it will stay there. You're welcome to argue T chips are more efficient than standard chips in the sense that they clock higher at same TDP, but I beg to differ. I'll try to come back with some data on this, will see what CB 15 score my chip gets at 35W limit so we can make a meaningful comparison.

Why use a K chip?
I wasn't making this argument to support the K chip, but it so happens that is what I have to work with - any other chip applies. The only standard chip I would recommend against is the 6400.

I got the Z170 board at the same price I would have gotten the H chipset board - a combination of heavy discount + inflated prices on H boards in mITX factor in my country. That skewed price/perf ratio in the sense that the K chip perf/price became more or less the same with i5 6500 which was my target to start with. I missed a heavily discounted 6500 by a day or two.

And, we don't see a T chip for comparison.
The GB4 comparison I posted was to show how any Skylake chip can operate at a desired TDP once configured properly, with the advantage of keeping low threaded performance at higher levels.

T chip is considerably cheaper than a K chip, and it includes a cooler.
  • T chip is more or less the same price with the standard chip, which also includes the stock cooler.
  • people going for passive or near passive cooling will not use stock cooler.
  • with a proper cooler one can make small systems or near passive systems with higher than 35W TDP CPUs

Some of the latest games tested by GameGPU: i3-6100 faster than FX-8350 in Rise of the Tomb Raider (DX12), Hitman (DX12), Far Cry Primal (DX11).

Hopefully Kaby Lake-S brings the long awaited 2C/4T desktop Pentium. I'd also like to point out the performance bump from i3-2100 -> i3-4330 -> i3-6100 - more impressive than the quad-core counterparts.

I heard that the i3 K is currently having the BEST Single Thread of all Intel processors ever made, even defeating i7s from the same generation?

That would be epic to watch.

No stock i3-k will be 4Ghz base with 4.2 turbo while i7 will be 4.2 base with 4.5 turbo.
When overclocked all bets are off,the less threads will probably provide better headroom for clocking but then again why buy a cheap(ish) chip and then go crazy on the o/c costs.

Wow, so, does anyone have a full and correct line-up of KBL CPUs being released on the 4th of Jan. 2017?

Unfortunately not yet, but NDA is up January 3rd so we will have the specifications soon.

That would be cool. I know that there was some confusion with prior lists, whether or not the i3-7350K had Turbo, and whether or not ALL of the KBL Pentium CPUs would have HT, or just the top bin.

Regarding the Pentium, we've had Geekbench, SiSoftware and a few ES leaks hinting at HT support, so I will be very surprised if retail units are different.

Too bad it won't be here on Jan 3rd. :(

Well the original source is not 100% sure if i3-7350K will be part of the launch lineup or not, so maybe there's hope? ;)

My sources are pretty sure that it won't be part of the initial launch. 1 month later maybe, dunno. But definitely not at launch, that's for sure.
It clocks just as well if not better (less cores, less heat) than it bigger siblings.

I'm interested in a HT Pentium KBL for my DeskMini units, if it's around $70 or less. (Might go up to $90. Above that, and I'd consider a cheap i3 instead.)

Edit: Is this the newest lineup leak?
http://wccftech.com/intel-kaby-lake-desktop-lineup-leak/

If so, looks like I'm going to be getting a pair of G4600 CPUs.
(3.6Ghz, 2C/4T, no Turbo/AVX, 51W, $87)

Does the G4600 support x265/HEVC hardware encoding/decoding? If not, I think the price premium for the i3-7350 is worth it. Unless all you do is internet browsing and no video playback. :D

Considering that the whole point of KBL is that new media encode/decode block, I would certainly hope that the Pentium chips have it.

Intel Core i3 has no Turbo Boost. 7350K simply runs at 4.2 GHz.
The i3-7320 is typically listed with a boost clock, though. As are several other KL i3 desktop chips. It may be just the 7350K that has no boost.

It looks like the big news with KL i3 chips might be that they now have turbo boost, except for the unlocked 7350K.

All still unconfirmed, though.

HardOCP's Core i7-7700K Overclocking Preview

his is what we had to tell you about 7700K overclocking a couple of weeks ago.

"Bad" Kaby Lake CPUs are looking to do 4.8GHz at less than 1.3v vCore. "Good" Kaby Lake CPUs are looking to do the magical 5GHz at 1.35v or less. 5GHz looks to be where these hit the wall however. The "golden" Kaby Lake will deliver 5.1GHz, but at a high 1.37v vCore.

These statements still look to be true from our own experiences and what we are being told by others inside the industry.

Unless I missed it, there was no mention of temperatures.

I witnessed instability with high temps, therefore I believe the majority of 7700ks can hit a stable 5ghz with the 'good ones' simply requiring less voltage. Unfortunately, the majority of people will need to delid it to achieve this.

I saw stability issues with 85-90 degrees, and running 5ghz with 1.35v will definitely be hitting at least these temps but more likely in the 95 degree region without delidding.

From my testing, the ceiling is 5.1ghz for stability. I'll be trying non-avx testing at 5.2, but I already know I cannot get 5.2ghz stable with Intel burn test.

Lol, are 6700k's creeping up in price?

They're going for £328 over here and I paid £363 for the 7700k (444 dollars).

It's the Q1 effect. Q1 tends to be the worst time for prices especially compared to proceeding Q4 which is the best time for prices.

NDA is up, as expected. More reviews are in and I will be posting everything I can find later today. Now here's an interesting bit from ExtremeTech's review:

- The Core i3-7350K will have two cores / four threads
- Flat 4.2GHz clock speed, and an unlocked multiplier
- Price is set at $162 in 1000-unit quantities (MSRP)

So for a few more $ than a Core i3-6320 ($149 – $157 MSRP, currently $159.99 @ Amazon.com) you get an extra 300 MHz out of the box + unlocked multiplier + Kaby Lake's updated media engine.

Intel Launches 7th Generation Kaby Lake: 15W/28W with Iris, 35-91W Desktop and Mobile Xeon

AnandTech doing great coverage as always, thanks Ian.

Some interesting bits from their article:

- Up to 500 MHz higher Turbo for Y SKUs
- Up to 400 MHz higher base clock for U SKUs
- Up to 600 MHz higher Turbo for U SKUs (15W i7-7660U can hit 4 GHz!)
- E3-1535M v6 packs 4C/8T with 4.2 GHz Turbo + iGPU (HD 630) at 45W
- We now have a mobile quad-core Core i3, sign of things to come for desktops?
- Iris is now Iris Plus
- Speed Shift v2, Optane and Updated Media Engine!

14nm+ showings its wings.
