I wish I had a reason for getting one. I just built my dual Opteron system for Architetcure and I have my A64 3200+ gaming pc at home. Ahh well.

Can anyone explain exactly what Intel Retail Edge is? I went to the site to look, but could just find a login page..

What if I work as a sales representitive for HP. I usually work at a Best Buy selling printers and computers. Would I qualify?

Thanks,
Alex

Its a site that offers mainly training for intel products. The training can be seen 365 days a year but the retail edge gets the most press when once a year they give people who work in retail the opportunity to buy the mentioned items (proc, mobo, xp pro) for $200.

YE strhat is when they get the most press however if you don't do the tests thoughout the year then it is tough to get enough points to buy

Yep, just like last year... Even though I work in retail, my chain isn't listed, so I can't participate. Wish Intel would open up the list of stores eligible! :disgust:

There is an option that says, "My chain not listed" Not sure what the options are from there though...

Two years ago WALMArt was not listed and we got in on the deal.

so Can't hurt to try! 😉

i can't get them to send me out a validation email...i've tried 5 different email accounts and have not gotten a response with any of them 🙁

-=bmacd=-

what are these "points" you all speak of ?

If I work at best buy and have never ever registerd for this, can i register and get one, even though I may not have any "points" ?

The points are presumably earned from doing the online training things. As mentioned by a previous poster, you need to be doing the online training things through the year to be garunteed to get one.

But you can acrew enough to Buy

The challenges take about 5 minutes a piece and the srticles are even quicker!

If you don't work/check the box for 1 of the stores included in the program (i.e., you check the "other" box), you may get a popup window like I did that said you're not eligeable to participate in the program. I did 4 "tests" and had 2,000 points when I got the popup with the option to continue taking the tests even though I couldn't join the program.

Since I haven't built an Intel based system since 2001 and continue to really like all the AMD systems I've built since then, I thought this program would be a good way to check out a "modern" intel system on a first hand basis for a reasonable price.

Oh well...maybe Intel will develop their "program" so that "other" stores will actually mean their workers will qualify for the program. Of course I'll also continue to recommend AMD to all my customers/friends because I'm happy with AMD and have no first-hand reason(s) to recommend Intel since I won't build using Intel due to higher build cost over a comparable AMD system.

Regards,

Bud

i think selling this shouldn't be against the rules. i really don't want to use that board it comes with, but for the price it can't be beat so im definately gonna get one for christmas =) (on the 23rd of oct )

Part off the agreement when you buy it is that you won't sell.

But intel won't know that would they? 🙂.

Do you think a recently departed employee of best buy would still be able to get the stuff? I signed up before i left...

No they will call and check with your manager. I remember my coworker Michael did it and he got a call about a month after he ordered. My situation is a little weird too though, I'm in the system right now but I havent worked for over a month so I'm technically on a leave of abscence until November 17th when I return for thanksgiving break so I hope they don't call between Oct 24th and Nov 16th.....I'll probably just make sure to get 10,000 points and than order on November 15th.

BTW quick question: if you get 10,000 points how long is your bundle guarenteed/ put on reserve for you?

edit: how are you guys getting over 10k in chips? Is it from attending live events or do they have temporary articles every so often that get removed?

To get the max in chips you have to take the tests the month they come out, and log in four times a month. When the tests are new they are worth more points. I got the bundle last year and am using it now, but I don't think I'm getting this years bundle. Even though it dual core it's 2.8 and I got a fine 3.4 now.

I around number 300 in chips last time I looked.
