it's cheaper to make, and people are going to be happy buying a quad core and not those "ancient" and slow dual cores like the G1820, right?

well it is more closer to core 2 quads, although small cache size makes that questionable.
I am typing this on core 2 duo ... it is showing its age. It sucks at even older games, and crap called flash bogs it down.

Win for the manufacturer at least. Gets to sell a cheap chip with the same name as a much faster haswell.
Not sure if it is a win for Intel and certainly not for the consumer unless the price is very low hand he knows what kind of performance he is getting.

Btw, I am assuming your post is sarcasm.
 
It does with 4 cores what an old E8400 can do with 2, so not exactly progress. Makes desktop PCs look bad, as if they need that right now. A desktop should be the most powerful computing device in anyone's inventory, not just a juiced-up tablet.
 
If the graphics were at least HD2000 or better it wouldn't be too bad. Unfortunately I don't think it does. Also shouldn't cost more than $200-250 without monitor.
 
More "cylinders" means more horsepower! 😉

Kinda goes to show how far behind AMD's Kabini is when it comes to comparing TDW and clock advantage. At least Kabini has much better graphics.

I think this is the future actually. People don't need faster computers, but they could use lower power consumption and smaller form factors. Yes, even for desktops.

Just my opinion, but I bet this processor has more power than it's target market will ever need. Does not take much for grandma to check email, play mahjong, and do some web shopping.

What scenarios do you envision where it will come up short for it's intended market?

Sorry, that target market has spoken and they wanted iPads.

Even if they kept using PCs and magically have budget quads they still be bogged down by slow I/O and lack of RAM. As romantic as it sounds on paper and benchmarks there is next to zero value proposition by Intel for this crowd, at all.
 
If they used the savings on the APU to put an SSD in those machines, I could get behind it. But they still keep shipping PCs with junk 5200RPM hard drives.
