Intel or AMD.

There is a reason for every war. basically, someone does something to start the spark, and congratulations! you just started one! 🙂

here's my quick 2 cents: amd is the better overall for price and performance.

To be honest AMD makes a better Price/Preformance CPU. an AMD cpu compaired with an equally priced Intel CPU will almost certanly win.

At this point, AMD is fairly clearly the winner, since only a very few programs work better with an Intel chip. Hopefully, Intel will come back and muddy the waters so we can have two sided flamewars again. The past and the future were and are debateable, but the present looks like it belongs to AMD.

I know the T-Birds and XP offered a superior price/performance ratio compared to the pentiums of that time. Im not so sure if the same price performace ratio is still valid when comparing Athlon 64s to the Pentium Prescotts or Extreme editions.

A neffer in the making! 😀

My last AMD cpu was the 1800+XP a while back, now I have been using Intel 2.66Ghz for past 2 years.

My vote goes to AMD.

Still pretty clearly AMD...unless you want to fry eggs with your CPU.

AMD is clearly a much better bang for the buck. But my needs aren't so demanding that I need to get THE fastest computer I possibly can, and since they can run more quiet, I'd buy a P4 so I can sleep at night.

huh? new p4's are a lot hotter then the new amd chips

and by the way my wife system is almost totally silent (she didnt want loud fans) by far the loudest part is her harddrive, which is one of the quietest ones you can buy 😀 ... its an overclocked 2500+ to xp3200+ speed. the fans are all low rpm (1 case fan, 1hsf, 1 fan in the powersupply... all low rpm panaflo L1a 80mm) plus a passivly cooled radeon 9600

how does somethin with no moving parts make noise? 😕

AMD, the supplier of CPU chips that are used on many of our products, has notified us that they plan to re-tool the production line that currently produces 486, 586 and K6 CPU chips. AMD needs to use their Fab 25 facility to produce a different line of products and will stop production on these CPU chips on June 28, 2002.

amd's most powerful cpu, the fx-55, uses less power and has less heat then the P4 3.0ghz prescott. talk about "wow"
