intel or AMD for HTPC?

Keep in mind this is an HTPC; it is not a type of computer whose demands change rapidly... so upgradability shouldn't be a major consideration.

Good Choice. If your really happy with your choice . Heres what I would do . I would gift AMD at least 50% of your savings . maildirectly to them . Thanking them for your savings . and words of incouragement . It sounds like nothing . But these nothings change the world . Besides it well make YOU feel good inside were it counts the most.

I feel like I already did that when I bought their stock a couple of years back.

True. My last HTPC (P4 2.8GHz) lasted almost 5 years.
But it's nice if there is some room for improvement vs. having to ditch the whole box.
(If there is a nice AM3 socket 5GHz 45W Quad core in 2 years for under $50 ... I will likely be tempted.)

Ok. I decided to go AMD.
The better boards, potential upgrade possibilities with AM3 in the future, potential fan-less CPU cooling, etc. just pushed me over the line.

Here's what I got:
AMD Athlon Brisbane 5050e - $59.99
null
ASRock 790GX motherboard - $89.99
Total - $149.98

Although I have to say the intel alternative is probably much more powerful and very attractive (if anyone else wants to swoop in):
Intel Pentium E6300 Wolfdale 2.8GHz 65W - $81.99
Zotac GF9300-A-E mainboard - $109.99
Total - 191.98

Yeah but you could also have gotten a Phenom x3 710 and Biostar ta790gx for 219. Learning to be satisfied with any computer is difficult. You made good choices. GOod luck with the build.

Yay! Received 2 packages from newegg today.
Hehe - I love that UPS Ground equates 1 biz day delivery for me from newegg.

Makes up for the tax (assuming you are in cali)

Yeah. That always sucks.
I actually try to avoid newegg for that reason but they were the cheapest this time around (including tax).
