I dont know why a "gamer" would possibly want more than a high-clocked E8XXX for the next 12-18 months.
The Verdict
So then, the hardcore truth today is a very simple fact: you'll gain a better bang for buck in your games from a faster clocked dual-core processor opposed to having a somewhat slower clocked quad-core processor. That doesn't mean though that quad-core processors offers less value. Contrary, and I know I've been evangelizing it for over a year now, but the future is multi-core gaming, the fact is just that dual-core is the sweet spot value wise anno 2008 as 95% of the games still only use one and maybe two CPU cores.

But b4 it gets derailed with more speculation.
Guys, you havent seen the 3.2 EE yet.
You havent seen the potential in overclocking yet.
You guys are basing judgements on a late end beta product, probably one of the first sample batches to hit.
Your calling judgements b4 the retail has hit.
Stop trying to pull a rabbit out of the hat. The rabbit isnt fully in there yet.
This is what im trying to tell you guys.
No not really getting you analogy.
Anand made it pretty damn clear that Neha is for everyone *except* gamers - me. He is telling us the color of the rabbit.
so .. What ARE you trying to tell us?
--that Neha does impress for gaming?
--that it is so impressive - also o/c'd - over Penryn's current O/C'd 4+Ghz that we should wait for it?
my 4870x2 is arriving this week and i am going for e0 q550 as soon as i get back from Nvision and x48 .. that is the plan, so far.

So i am getting a quad core CPU that may clock just under 4Ghz as opposed to a Dual Core that will clock just over 4.3Ghz.
- big deal if i spend a few extra bucks
Did you miss where i said i will be *reviewing* games and HW and i need 4 cores? - otherwise i will be like the DC guys and not know what i may be missing.

Hmmm... based on what I'm seeing around the tubes, it's hard to get any quad up over 3.7. I certainly could be wrong though. I know I'll stick with duals for awhile.

You crazy kids and your double entendres, I have no idea what you are writing about but I suspect it's a fad in Germany and probably outlawed in the remainder of Europe.

According to that review November is the month for Nehalem. Lets see, that's around 3 months away. The question you should be asking is how often do you upgrade. Unless you have buyers lined up and can sell your gear without too much loss, I would think hard.
I actually thought about getting Q9550 myself the other day but instead I'll be getting some more DDR3 before they change revisions on me...
