Intel i5 3570k-$169/i7 3770k-$229 (Microcenter)

I bought the i5 3570K at $169 bundled with $40 off the cheapest Z77 MB I could find (GIGABYTE GA-Z77-DS3H, about 3 months ago. This motherboard doesn't have vcore adjustment for overclocking, but wasn't a big loss for me. The 3570K gets pretty hot when you up the voltage so I my plan was to just see what overclock I could get with stock voltage. It's been rock solid at 4.2 Ghz, which was a good enough overclock for me, since I have a silent system with low airflow. So if you want a mild overclock, you can go with a cheap mother board with the $40-off bundle

i know dallas can seem like southern oklahoma at times but it hasn't seceded from texas yet.

<--- sitting in houston about 2 miles from a microcenter

Thanks for pointing that out! I get over to Houston ever once in a while. Its easier to talk my wife into that trip vs to DFW.

MicroCenter. Some folks managed to swing the 3570K as a substitute for $99.
Maybe I was late to the party, but I got shut down at the Dallas MC 🙁

I almost skipped work for that, but figured I'd get there and there wouldn't be any left.

It's funny, the big BF'11 deal was a $150 2500K, and MC is selling the 3570K for $169 everyday. These are great times we are living in, bros!

I got my I5 3570k and asrock Z77 board for around $250 OTD, I was lucky enough to get the $40 off combo deal with a open box motherboard tho
This was at the Mayfield heights store

This deal with $40 off mobo is back on. MSI Z77 motherboard is 24.99 after rebates, both instant and mailed.

I think Microcenter is fantastic. I've shopped there since the '85 and I've never had a problem.

That said, I've always bought right there at the store. I've never mail ordered anything.

Reseller ratings... read some of them, don't go just by the numbers. Microcenter is fine. They have a small chain of brick and mortar stores. Best deals are usually in-store only, and beat out Newegg, Tigerdirect, and Amazon pricing.

Their web store does not always have a good handle on web or B&M inventory. It can get overwhelmed and fail when a particularly hot deal is widely posted on deal sites. Mistakes are widely abused by low-life types on a big hot deal forum (not here!).
a question of all:
is "microcenter" a good store?...

I picked up a 3570K and the MSI board over the weekend. Ordered online for instore pickup - when I got there the kid had a $25 off $100 coupon he scanned for me.

$208 OTD and I've got a $20 MIR sitting here to send in.

Microcenter is win.

BestBuy will only price match Microcenter if it is local... within 25 miles of you. No online pricematch.

Not true at all. If you word things correctly, they don't care how close it is to your home, just needs to be within 25 miles of a Best Buy.

They don't pull up google maps of your home address while on the phone...

the 3570K has been at that price since at least October

the 3770K price cut has been more recent but its not anything new, its been that way for a few weeks at least, if not a full month

there's no doubt its a great deal, its just not a new deal, and certainly not in danger of selling out except for maybe when we get a bit closer to Christmas or something and people are buying them up for gifts and they're not getting restocked fast enough

basically, this isn't a liquidation like the recent 2500K @ $99 or the 2700K @ $199

they'll get them back in stock at the same price, all three MC's in my state have 10+ of each CPU

Not that it really matters but no it hasn't. It goes up and down from 189 to 169. I check often.

There will always be something a bit faster on the horizon and if you play that game you'll never be satisfied. I usually buy the second best and find it's a much better value than the best and not much performance difference.

This is a great deal.

Nice find thanks OP

What MB & CPU combos are pretty good right now with the 3570k or the 3770k?

My daughter needs a new pc....
