I ordered the Gigabyte UD3P and the Intel E7200. And I also plan on using the TRUE aftermarket sink or maybe something from Zalman or Xigmatek.

But I was just wondering what you all are getting with this cpu in overclocks and at what settings ? My memory is 4 GIG G-Skill DDR2 800

My parts should be here tomorrow and I do plan on overclocking it as far as possible.
 
So how is this E7200 compared to the likes of the E8400 and E8500 when overclocked ? Anyone know of benchmarks comparing the two when overclocked ? I looked but could not really find anything. I found some of the E7200 overclocked, but not comparing to the other two.

 
Same board as you, though I can't get over the 440mhz fsb reguardless of voltage (rather odd for this board).

Right now, 3.55ghz at 1.376Vcore. Going to 3.6+ghz requires over 1.42v, something that I'm not going to bother with.

I gained 400mhz since I got rid of my 680i. Though that may have something to due with the fact I can fit a thermalright 120-ultra in my case now instead of the hr-01 plus (90mm wide versus 120mm).

Have you ran any gaming benchmarks or synthetics with your setup ? Mine will be almost identical to yours.
 
Running a similar setup to what you got just built about 2 weeks ago

Gigabyte EP45-UD3R
4 x 2gb DDR2 800 Adata
Tuniq Tower
300GB Veliciraptor

with 4 double sided sticks of cheap ram I didnt try to push the ram too hard
CPU came with a VID of 1.175 M0 revision

I eventually settled at 9x410 (3.7ghz)
CPUZ load core voltage of 1.328
Prime 95 load temps ~65C
Intel burn test temps = YIKES! 80+


I had it at 3.8 stable but at the cost of more core voltage and heat production than I cared for, could post at 4ghz but temps and voltage to get it stable wasnt IMO at reasoanble levels if you get a nice low (sub 1.1VID) you should be able to hit 4ghz stable

Board seems great very stable quite happy with it I didnt try to push extreme FSB again because of the cheapo ram I have
 
I am going to try to get the maximum possible, but I will keep the vcore below 1.4. I would like to keep it around 1.35 or lower. So whatever clock is possible with that, is what I will be running.
 
I just checked at the 3.7ghz my bios vcore is 1.3875

at 3.8 I had to go up to 1.425 bios

I just hated having the CPU sit idle at 1.4 for a mere 100mhz

if you get a nice low VID let us know so I can feel sad mine wasn't

My other hardware that will be used is in my sig.

My psu is a OCZ GameXtreme 850.
 
Well, I've booted into Windows at 4GHz (422x9.5) also but I couldn't get it stable. The VID on my chip is 1.175V and I'm using 1.4V rock solid stable at 3.8GHz (400x9.5).
The rest of my specs are in my sig.

I have, but not lately, and it was only to check to see if my setup was running normal. Would you like me to run a few? If so, name specifically what you'd like to see!


Games honestly have a very noticeable improvement (Most likely the +400mhz I got from the switch). I tend to play CPU limited games though, TF2 is a big one.

Oh, and my VID is 1.225, the highest I've ever seen on the E7200 so my OC is fairly decent I suppose.

Yes I would like to see a few benches if you don't mind 🙂 would be greatly appreciated. Especially since you have the same exact GPU that I have coming in as well. I will know what to expect.

Far Cry 2
3Dmark 06 *synthetic*

I mainly play anything, so any game would really give me a good idea.
 
currently 3.8GHz @ 1.3875 Vcore in bios (1.36 in windows), Vtt is 1.2, NB is 1.2, SB is 1.5. Running under a zerotherm nv120. I can hit 4.0GHz @ 1.4V under load- but the temps suck... some lapping will be taking place.
Running on an asus p5n-d

overclocking on E8 series should be higher, if the board can handle high fsb values. Even if you could overclock a 7200 past a 8XXX, you can't overclock yourself into having more cache.
 
Just started overclocking mine a few days ago

E7200 on a Gigabyte EP45-DS3L with the stock Intel heatsink/fan
VID 1.12 (according to cpuz) Antec Sonata III 9600GT Two hard drives One Optical Stock single 120mm rear fan

Testing at 3600Mhz now. CPUVcore set to Auto (it selected 1.28V). Running Prime95 right now (cpuz shows core voltage at 1.264 w p95 running). Staying in the low 60s with a peak of 66° C so far (room temp is 20° C)


Looks like I would have to upgrade the cooling to get it a lot higher. Don't know if I will do that since this cpu seems about average only and I wanted to keep this a budget setup
 
3.5 with 1.31 vcore, although I can get it stable at about 2.9 with lots of voltage, but I didn't think it was smart for long time use
