My apologies, I see what's happened here. You and I are reaching our percentages via different methods. I took the percentage out of the 4960X's score, so I would have called the 4960X's 'advantage' closer to 30%.

I can't even remember whether Absolution had a built in benchmark, but since when were those kinds of benchmarks useful for anything. They seldom represent anything close to a 'worst case scenario', and clearly the reviewers aren't all using that same benchmark, so I don't see what relevance you saying you got 70fps minimum in the built in benchmark has to anything.

I think I sold my gear before the 'wonder driver' came out, so I'll be interested to see how Absolution performs with it.
I mention the benchmark because that is what most people and sites use when testing the game.

yeah those last 2 drivers made a massive difference. min went from 51 to 72 fps in bench.

btw the setting that is cpu intensive in that game is reflections. if you turn that down to low it helps out a bit in the actual game.

thats why its stupid to test cpus on low settings as some settings impact the cpu. for cpu testing run the highest setting except no AA and use a lower res. that will eliminate gpu limitation and show what a particular cpu is capable of.

Any new info on this chip or the i5 yet?
I see MC is selling the non k version of the i7 now too but its clocked lower by 400 mhz

As far as I know the non-K versions are just regular Haswell parts. They don't have the TIM or capacitor changes.

Id like to see the i5 k part benchmarked. Its $90 cheaper at MC then the i7 and if it over clocks good then I'll get it instead

There are two overclocked machines that run in my house on a daily basis. They are both far more stable than our haswell i3 system. That one crashes twice a week. After spending $200 on motherboard + RAM, I would expect better.

Clearly there is a defect in the i3 system. I have two Haswell systems that can have as much uptime as I want them to, and one of them, a 4770K, is overclocked to 4.3.

Perhaps the i3 system is running Windows ME...

Seriously though, something's up. Healthy computers just don't crash these days.

Looks like there's a BIOS for my board which supports the 4690K, but not the 4790K or the unlocked Pentium. That's... pretty strange.

Would be nice to see a review from this site at some point rather than just every single phone in existence.

Didn't you get the memo? Apparently the world is now playing Crysis 3 on tablets and smart phones, and the desktop is no more. </sarcasm>

I must say that the overall quality of reviews for this product so far have been extremely poor. I've seen a consistent lack of game results, sloppy testing, erroneous (or non-existent) article editing, and similar.

That's fair, but the only real question was how high the overclock was going to be; and that has been thoroughly answered. At least for the 4790K.

Intel did a good job on Devils Canyon getting the extra Mhz out of it, but it's clear that they are really pushing the limits of Core at this point.

Yea, seems a dearth of PC and gaming reviews on Anand's recently. I dont think they ever even put up the full review of mantle they promised. As someone else said though, the verdict on DC is pretty clear. Great performance at stock, with a bit more OC headroom and somewhat better thermals. A nice improvement, but Intel would have been better of to have cooled it with the overclocking PR. Sort of leaves them with egg on their face that no one has hit 5ghz yet, other than at the intel sponsored event.

Smartphone reviews also generate much more page views, I suppose.
I think this is it. Unless you want your site to become irrelevant, you put up stuff that people want to look at. Mobile devices don't do all that much for me, but obviously they are insanely popular. PCs are about as exciting as refrigerators to the average person.

We do have multiple employees, you know.;)

There will be a review of the 4790K. We just got the processor, so it will take some time.

Thanks for responding Ryan. In fairness I think there is room for a little confusion due to Ian mentioning 10 days ago that testing should begin shortly. Maybe Intel took longer than expected to deliver the processor.

In case you're still reading, do you know if AT still plans to also offer a full Surface Pro 3 review?
