Furthermore, they went with a closed-back design, despite those grills in the D-panel suggesting otherwise. They are actually covered on the inside with two layers of thermal tape. That means no air comes in through the bottom, and the admission only happens through the keyboard area and through the small cut on the back edge, which channels the air over the CPU, into the fan, and out.

There is a ventilation grill on the bottom but covered on the inside, a big cooling design flaw. 13W big lol.
 
@mikk Performance of the Tigerlake-based devices are inconsistent. One Youtube review for the 9310 shows 30% over another one with the same device on the Cinebench test. Unfortunately that means XPS isn't the 25W class performance device I expected. Swift 3 is still the king.

Also in one review in Fortnite its getting 15-20 fps in High, while a user reports with the latest drivers he's getting 50. I'm not sure if its just drivers looking at the inconsistency.

50 fps on Fortnite 1080p High is what should be expected as Icelake gets 25 fps.

All seems like the whole launch is very rushed. Can't believe a popular game like Fortnite getting 2x the frames just because of driver optimizations.

They have another driver out. Fixes some issues with games crashing, but still lot of crashing on other games. I'd say they are ~2 months behind a solid launch.
 
Dell already has several Tiger Lake laptops ready to purchase and most have delivery of early to mid November. I was amused a little bit because there are several Comet Lake laptops (and the cheapest Ryzen of the pitiful 4 models Dell sells) backordered into December and even January.

The best cooling solution from a Tigerlake thin and light I have seen so far comes from Lenovo Thinkbook 13s/14s.

the whole tigerlake laptop offer is a big lol
I dont know if the makers got their brains out but it looks like we need to wait for MSI and microsoft to release their devices
and we are not talking about special cooling design, just all run like 12W sustained which is a big fat no for U laptop
half of the laptops cant even reach the single core max clock....
so far we didnt see the new HP spectre 14 with 3:2 display with" improved cooling"

I just dont know how Intel could allow such a fu.up with the best U target CPU in years

I will believe it when I see it. And so far Tigerlake has not been impressive. And Ice lake server ? Again, by their own forecasts (see Intel Q3 thread) they are not going to do well. They will be goig up against Milan, and right now Rome is crushing them.
 
It feels a lot like there was an intermediate stepping of the 10nm node between Ice Lake mobile's version and 10sf. Perhaps they had to go to a lower density library set to get yields good enough to have acceptable volume of 9+ core dies for server use.

Well, I just dropped $1300 on a Cascade Lake upgrade because I am betting Sapphire Rapids will not see the light of day in 2021.

Hate to say it, but you're probably right.

Looks like that roadmap has Sapphire Rapids in late Q3/early Q4 2021. We'll see if Intel can actually hit that target in meaningful volume.

Can't be that old. Mystic Pass is shown as released, and it was indeed released in Q2 2020.

The heatpipe is bigger than the S14 CML-U version. I wonder if Lenovo ThinkBook 15-ITL G2 iGPU version gets the 2 heatpipe cooling. If it gets I believe this 1 fan cooling can beat the Vivobook.
