But back to MTL. I really wonder how will It end up. Especially IGP.
Well, 20 more days to go. And Intel still keeps teasing. They call it their big "Centrino" moment. And they're rebranding MTL as Ultra which in itself is a big move.

All leaks point to only one thing that MTL's gonna be hyper-power-efficient with decent performance. Maybe on par or maybe slightly better than M2 in both performance and efficiency. Not sure though.

All we can say for sure as of now is.. something *different* is coming. And it better be good for Intel's own sake!

The top MTL-H die is basically the 13700H (with some VPU perks sprinkled in) and almost double the efficiency. It'll do fine but it's not really game changing since Intel already has a big portion of the mobile market anyway. I think SRF & GNR will actually move the needle a bit more since they'll offer an opportunity to bring in more revenue.

I think you are underselling the GPU. 4x the execution units, 4x the shaders, at 1.3x the frequency, leading to a rumored 5.5x TFLOPS. While that isn't the most powerful GPU out there, Intel will finally have an option able to play many games decently. Then more PCIe lanes, faster memory, AI, VPU, etc. I think it has a little bit of something for everyone except those who want a mobile high-core-count number cruncher.

There is no reason to turn this into an irrelevant market share discussion. Your argument is basically that any company that has a monopoly in anything can never release a game changer* because they already have a monopoly. Really think about that.


* Note: not that I'm calling Meteor Lake a game changer, that is SiliconFly's term. But to just discount it because Intel already has a good market share is silly.

If MTL turns out to be a 13700H with double the power efficiency, that itself is a major breakthrough for Intel. Just sayin'

And MTL's tGPU performance was estimated to be somewhere between a 2 to 5 TFLOPS. Again, that was just a guesstimate as we still don't know abt the performance impact of not having dedicated GDDR6. But it's definitely a good improvement.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a big deal for Intel and is the beginning of their transition to tiled arch and node parity with AMD. The future of Intel’s mobile processors is very bright.

I just have a hard time getting excited for mobile processors.

You think this is accurate/representative? You would need much more tests. If one test is screwed because the power management is broken or the video player isn't using the hardware decoder for whatever reason on one device it's a non representative test. It's a very basic test, it's impossible to look into what they were doing and what causes the big difference, there is no Hwinfo screen with power numbers or similar. If this test is representative it would be easy to prove it with other tests from other sites like notebookcheck, ultrabookreview etc.

Although using OLED, 13900H model has better battery life.

There are Lunar Lake-M benchmarks on Sisoft, so it's up and running including the Battlemage tGPU. It confirms the 64EU rumor. It's an 8W chip, no wonder they call it ultra low power. I believe we will see it before Arrow Lake mobile (not counting the Meteor refresh Arrow).

Looks like they hit LNL power-on earlier than expected! In that case, LNL may launch alongside ARL next year!

You can't really trust Sisoft. It also has MTL-S benchmarks, a chip that was cancelled according to just about everyone here. 😉

As far as I know, most reliable source is this, however, this only mentioned 6+8 tile.

The rumors that they were going to use it as the low end part (with 8+16 Arrow being the high end) as the 23/24 desktop parts.

It got cancelled most likely more because they don't have the 7 nm wafer supply than issues making it at least power on.

Considering there are already announced products and benchmarks with MTL-S (both posted on this page of the thread), I don't think it is cancelled. @jpiniero is likely correct: MTL-S will only be the low-end chips (65 W and under). It looks more and more like the high-end 125 W overclockable K chips will not be part of Meteor Lake.

It appears that they cancelled it. People may be assuming that they are going to do a smaller Arrow die instead but that's not a bad guess.

That was the assumption almost a year ago. I don't think it's coming close to that. too much work for intel when they need to be laser focused on what really matters. 14th gen refresh of 13th is still going to bring customers in upgrading from anything up to 12th gen where 12 th gen to 14th gen jump is a waste of money and intel's new faults make i worthwhile to upgrade now. lga1700 is a dead socket but it's a well established one. and people who prefer or need intel can jump right into it without sweating. things get real weird next gen with lga1815 or whatever intel picked out of their rear end. it allegedly supports 3 generations of processors, one is assumed to be a refresh, or it might not be. maybe this is intel signalling they're done with 2 gens to a socket and trying to be like amd and make sockets matter for consumers. it's still a raw deal because intel raises their hand to go potty every fall and give consumers an overpriced pos that offers minimal improvement over last gen whereas amd would prefer to wait longer and deliver meaningful upgrades.

So, you are arguing to stick with older processors--because you don't like faster processors for about the same price? Now I've seen everything in this forum.

If anyone asks me for computer advice this fall, just for you, I'll be certain to only recommend CPUs available in 2022. Can't have this faster stuff.

Where do you get that baloney from Intel extending release time from every 12 months to 15-16 months like AMD or not because their shareholders won't like the slower cadence which may bring a better reward for consumers?
