Screwegg!!!

And I am sure they buy more then most sites so NO reasons they pay the distributor that much more.....

Newegg is good on the stuff that has been out for awhile...When it comes to new gear, I rarely buy there

Isn't it $999 per 1,000 CPU's bought? This is still pretty steep though, should drop to around $999 come August.

1k pc price = disti cost. The dist makes 3-5 pts and the reseller makes about 5-10 pts.

A fair market price is about 1100-1150.

Looks like Screwegg is going for the jugular!!

Actually the Pentium XE 965 is ~ 1050US and has been out for like what 4 months now... so 50US premium is ok with me on the XE.

Well, availability is very limited and I bet they will sell the few that they have. They are a corporation out to make money after all.

I imagine their prices will become more competitive after Intel floods the distribution channels with the new chips.

They are just taking advantage of the early sales , Same thing happens to any major product launch.

Anyone buying this at all is almost certainly doing it for pointless bragging rights, so more power to Newegg for soaking the nerd-bling crowd.

If you're lighting your cigars with $50 bills, what's another $300 for the owning the best?

LOL nerd-bling. I just had a mental image of a nerd wearing a big gold chain with a Conroe chip in the middle instead of a diamond marijuana leaf

I think Newegg took it off or something; I checked the link this morning and it worked, now it doesn't

Because it was sold out, they took it off so they wouldn't be bombarded with Auto-Notify requests.

why do people always whine about prices from companies? They charge what they can get. Simple as that, all companies for profit do that. Just the way the world works, although, almost 1.4k is pretty steep for a proc, but we all remember the days when a new comp would run about 6-10k. :)

I don't like newegg, so I don't buy from them. Their CS is nice, but also inept.

Nerd Bling is 4 GB of encrypted data hanging from a lanyard on your neck. Yo?

rofl

My plan is get a completely Conroe-ready system (2GB DDR2-800 RAM, Asus P5W-DH Deluxe motherboard, ATi Radeon X1900XT) and use a Pentium D 805 (overclock that sucker to 3.6GHz+ on Zalman CNPS9500). I'll pick up a Conroe and another 2GB of DDR2-800 RAM once Vista comes out.
