During a Q&A in which he’d promised to answer any questions put to him, The CEO of computer chip company Intel stayed silent when asked about NSA spying.

Brian Krzanich was taking part in a Reddit online chat session, and set about answering all manner of the website users’ questions, from the company’s relationship with Apple to his favourite type of sandwich. However, when it came to talking about hardware security in the wake of revelations regarding NSA mass spying, he suddenly had nothing to say.

When a second Redditer pursued the line of questioning, asking for a response to questions on the security level of Intel processors, Krzanich still did not address the question.
A few twitter messages on the link as well.

The type of access we are speaking here is about the "secret" remote 3G ultra-low-power chip integrated into some of the workstation CPUs, however it's probably being used in all of them as further sources claim but I haven't researched deep about this so maybe some CPU enthusiasts know more about which ones specifically have this chip. The 3G chip ofcourse means, as they claim, that it has an radio antenna integrated so it doesn't have to be connected to the internet if the attacker is close enough physically, it can receive commands even if it's not turned on (power on state), however I do not know in detail in how low on the power level it can go, it might work only with sleep (+5VSB), and not with hibernation or power off, while still plugged in. But keep in mind, even if the PC is technically in Power Off state, the +5VSB is still on and can be used, it's never really off. The network card keeps using this for wake-over-lan stuff ... etc.

This is extremely silly. It was a reddit AMA, tons of questions don't get answered. The idea that there is a functioning 3g radio hidden inside chips is retarded. The whole rumor is based off of a service that intel offers and if you read more closely requires a separate 3g radio in the laptop.

so the 50 questions he answered did not come up. the 2 questions he didnt answer is a new thread. nice

Ofcourse, I totally agree, I really do believe Intel's claims, and besides there's nobody listening to our calls, nobody spying on ex-partners sexual life, no fluoride in the water, no poison in the vaccines, obama is our lord and saviour, the government loves us.

What do you think Intel's Anti-Thief is http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/vpro-anti-theft-small-business-advantage,3259-10.html

Ofcourse, these things might not use the extra capabilities of the chip, but it's the coverstory, so people don't find out later and make a big deal out of it, but we're decoding their BS so we're meaking a big deal of it right now.

Also, can't believe people can be blind, what about that NSA slide, still not good source enough?

that question was also asked after he finished the AMA and then was subsequently upvoted like mad. Turns out it's also hard to answer questions that weren't there when you were answering them, lol. Way to dodge the future!

The government does love us, where do you think tax revenue comes from :colbert:

Seriously though, there is no poison in vaccines, and there IS flouride in the water, and that is a good thing. Your bodily fluids aren't all that precious.

We know there is no secret 3G modem embedded in CPUs because:

1) We have die shots. How come they don't show up in these shots?

2) Even if the NSA could achieve #1, how would they avoid the 3G signals from being detected, which would be trivial to do for someone who knows what they're doing?

3) Even if #1 and #2 were no problem, it would be a huge waste of resources when there are other, cheaper ways to collect information, particularly when you have specific targets in mind.

Well sorry if this might not be the correct subforum, but it is about CPUs nontheless, i'll remember it for next time.

I didn't participate, but I saw NSA comments all over the place. The people that did participate are the ones who claim he didn't answered so It's not my fault.

Really ?

Safety Sheet excerpt (public PDF)

In the water they put in a form which is called Hydrofluorosilicic Acid (HFSA) among other names used (first link below)

Still, most of the fluoride compounds get broken down to flouride ions which are basically toxic. There is zero need or benefit from this chemical, it's all a joke and they laugh while they make a lot of money selling industrial waste to the city water plants.

How do you know it's not there, do we know how to even spot it. Heck I haven't digged into this yet, and while i like following tech, I'm not experienced in die shots at all. And I haven't seen any research on this yet.

Someone unbiased needs to do it, and I say that, if there's someone doubting this, ofcourse he's not going to even consider taking time and effort into trying to find it.

Jeebus, how did the crazy that infects P&N get in here?

First off, show me one study where thimerosol has caused any issues from vaccine use in large population studies. You can't because the data does not point in that direction.

Second, most (all?) municipal water supplies are not fluoridated in this country. If you think fluoride is a poison, then you must also consider water, caffeine, etc. a poison.

You probably think vaccines cause autism too, eh?

Toxic is about the dose, not the substance. Sodium fluoride is not fluoride any more than salt is chlorine gas. The NSA is coming to get you though. They have these cool black helicopters that don't even make any noise. They could come for you any time. Now that you're on to them you may want to drop off the grid. Especially AT, I know for a fact that they monitor this website.

am sure they do. everything gets monitored. they do not need integrated networking since most people are already connected to the internet. but it has for sure crossed their mind. and there have already likely been ideas and plans made about it.

How is a 3G signal going to make it through the half inch thick block of copper sitting on top of it? Plus the metal panel of a case? Plus a few layers of drywall?

has no problem with drywall on phones. doubt the case will do anything as it is too thin

The guy who was linked to was apparently someone on the inside that put this info out so some of the investigative journalists picked it up and it went viral ...

Also I found an old thread when the initial story broken, and some guy was saying how could Intel possibly put this inside without some amateur radio people to find this.

Gonna copy the whole quote (from arstechnica)
3G is not passive, the device interacting with a 3G network has to transmit information about itself and its requirements to the network. Any idiot with a spectrum analyzer would instantly pick up something amiss. You can't exactly hide a transmission strong enough to interact with a 3G base station! Hell, any idiot with an (im)properly set up audio amplifier can rectify 3G transmissions and get the famous buzzing interference on his speakers.

There are people (e.g. Chipworks) who reverse engineer chips. Intel could not hide an RF amplifier on a CPU or core logic without someone seeing it and saying "Hey, this looks a lot like an RF transmitter and amplifier, wonder what it's doing there?"
It's not there to be doing that, if it's true, it's probably just like those hibernating RFID chips, they don't emmit anything unless specifically being scanned and "activated" by an appropriate signal.

And 3G in the article doesn't mean much, it's just working on the similar frequencies, doesn't mean it has to go through the cell phone tower, agencies can set up their own 3G transmitters in their vans if they need to and blast a signal strong enough to get through the walls and other obstacles.

However I do believe the technology is limited in transmitting range and throughput, can't fit a big antenna in there.

Keep in mind, recieving doesn't require a big antenna at all, that's why RFIDs work.

On the note how accurate the initial report was, is another question, one thing that makes me uneasy is that it's not technical enough, the source appeared to be trusted for IW to carry it apparently. But I hope the journalist did fully understood what he was writting about and didn't mix technical terms in this because the details make basically a whole difference in the end.

Also, Chipworks doesn't appear to be any kind of "independent" CPU enthusiast group at all. It's a big techincal business I see.

You probably think vaccines cause autism too, eh?

I don't think anything, I told you what I know. If I would think, then I wouldn't be talking with full confidence and use a note to indicate the use of speculation. I usually don't say anything unless I'm 100% sure.

The data you are referring to might be fraudulent, that's always the first thing you need to eliminate and just for that it takes experience and knowledge.

One of the most classic excuses is the dosage thing. Toxic halogens and heavy metals don't care about dosage, they accumulate in the body, while the body doesn't have effective means of self-detoxification of these elements, especially in weak malnourished avreage citizens on fast food, or in other words, a sheeple who watches NFL male soap opera or worshipping celebrities , one of the best ways to force detoxification is regular exercise such as running, these elements will be exported via sweat as well.

Look guys, it's all there, you just need to find it, and you just need to stop being naive and you'll find the energy to do some effort for your own health.

Anyways wanted to search for some high-resolution i7 die shots, found some low-res stuff but I don't know where to look for, anything 2013 and later should be okay for this.

There's no 3G capability on die. Seriously. Those things aren't that small, and have a very distinct appearance.

I work in a water treatment company (only 6 month btw)...in Brazil

There is a law that don't allow us to use more than 1,5mg\L of flouride, and we use half of that usually

"they make a lot of money" ...seriously, is not that much, around 220 dollar per month in a city of 24K citizens (half the minimum wage of brazil)

activated carbon is 3 times more expensive per kilo, and we have to use at least 12mg\L to remove algae chemicals... almost 30 times more expensive, for a kinda cold days in summer

It was a lame AMA where Brian only answered softball questions, but you are spouting off some Alex Jones level BS.
