Insurance for a Nissan Skyline in the US

Does anyone know where i can get an accurate online quote for a Skyline in the US? They arent for sale in the US so finding a quote has been difficult. I know it will be much higher than a similar classed car with a steering wheel on the left etc...

State: Pennsylvania
Vehicle Value: Approx $15000
My Age: 22
Violations: 1 speeding ticket, 2 points, 45 in a 35.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but isnt it illegal to have cars with right side driving in North America?

It is my understanding that its perfectly legal, although insurance is dramatically higher.

Canada Post has some right side drive delivery trucks.

Hmm, grundy didnt give me any options for uninsured driver insurance which is required, and wont tell me what my deductible is.

$170 seems awfully low.

Edit: Hagerty gave me $592 a year, and also didnt mention medical or uninsured driver coverage. this is with $1000 deductibles. I would assume that this website assumes that this is not the primary vehicle?

Im paying more than this now on a 1986 nissan maxima with 150k miles 🙁

Correction Hagerty did have uninsured driver and medical coverage, and has their license number for insuring residents of PA, they are looking like a good choice. Although id have to keep my ancient maxima as the primary driver to get the rate quoted.

Its illegal in Canada even though canada post has those trucks. They have them because they get out very often and its safer for them to exit on the sidewalk side than jumping in traffic at every couple of houses.

If you're buying a skyline for 15k - I would be suspicious and cautious. I've heard of major scams concerning that kind of thing. But if you already have one - congrats, nice car.

Its local and from a trusted friend who owns a mod-shop (and runs it), he never insured the car and drove it because hes a dumbass, i want to own it the legal way and will buy it if i can find reasonable insurance.

Lots of GTRs over here that people always talk about shipping to the States. I've heard the shipping and modification is over $5,000, but you can buy a used one for under $10,000 so it might actually be worth it in the long run.

Sweet cars, but I'd never buy one in this climate (sea salt in the air!).

Do you meet the requirements of Hagerty?

Usage. Hagerty covers vehicles that are used on an occasional basis -- e.g. club functions, exhibitions, organized meets, tours and limited pleasure driving.

Storage. Collector vehicles must be stored in a fully enclosed, locked garage when not in use.

Driving records. Generally, one or two minor traffic violations or accidents are acceptable. We are not able to insure those who have experienced major infractions such as a DUI, reckless driving or excessive speed violations within the past 3-6 years.* All household driving records are subject to review by an underwriter.

Regular-use vehicles. Each licensed household driver needs to have a regular-use vehicle for daily driving and must maintain regular-use insurance in his or her own name.

Because these are newer vehicles that are often driven and used like a regular-use vehicle, Hagerty must ensure that the vehicle is being treated as a collectible.

Hagerty is meant for show vehicles, and you have to put

I had an old AM General (former postal jeep) that i used for work some time back.

Insurance was the same.

It was great fun at drive-throughs.

He's full of sh*t. He never insured it because it's impossible for that car. 99% chance that the car is illegal and cannot be registered in the USA

it is definitley not illegal to operate a right driven car in the USA, I have seen it done with many a European import. In fact, I can think of no reason it should be insured any differently than a regular car. They drive both left and right driven vehicles in the UK too.... When I eventually import my Austrailian (right driven) mustang, I don't even think that what side the wheel will is on will even be a question.........

you can't register/insure it unless its been modified and tested to conform to DOT standards. Why do you think it costs so much to buy them from motorex, they had to do all the crash testing and emissions mods

this is simply one of those situations where you gotta get off the internet and pick up the phone, IMO.

100% correct, it has to meet DOT standards before you can insure it/drive it legally
