If you're buying a skyline for 15k - I would be suspicious and cautious. I've heard of major scams concerning that kind of thing. But if you already have one - congrats, nice car.

Its local and from a trusted friend who owns a mod-shop (and runs it), he never insured the car and drove it because hes a dumbass, i want to own it the legal way and will buy it if i can find reasonable insurance.
He's full of sh*t. He never insured it because it's impossible for that car. 99% chance that the car is illegal and cannot be registered in the USA

oh so you know more about him and his friend than he does?

I'd love to know how one could get a legal Skyline in the United States for only $15,000. Only a Registered Importer for a specific car can legalize it for public street use. MotoRex is the only Registered Importer for Skylines in the United States. MotoRex also sells Skylines for a lot more than $15,000. I'm calling shenanigans because the owner of the Skyline would have to be absolutely retarded to sell a MotoRex Skyline for only $15,000.

I'm curious as to how long this Skyline has been in the United States also.

It is not certified by motorex. I have seen motorexs prices on the skyline.. and id rather have a viper.

The certification mods run about $5700 without labor, they just overcharge. I didnt know about the certification process, but i know the car will pass emissions as-is. The car has been in the states for 3 years.

Looks like I was right before The car you're talking about is illegal to drive on the public street. Don't bother trying to legalize it yourself because only MotoRex can. There's a good chance that that Skyline isn't even supposed to be in the United States right now and could be confiscated and crushed by the DOT if they were to find out about it.

Yes, that's right I do. Still want to open your mouth, M3-boy?

PowerMac4Ever is absolutely correct. Only MotoRex has the proper licensing to modify the Skyline for US street use. Other companies purchase cars from MotoRex and resell them, but all mods run through MotoRex.

You can get a practically spotless Skyline GTR for about $12k or so, including shipping. However, it would be worthless, unfortunately, unless you want to import a bunch and start crash testing your cars & mods yourself.

Does the "official" mod process (necessarily?) include: changing from R-side drive to L-side drive? Couldn't you save money by only doing a minimal upgrade, leaving the steering wheel on the right side?

No, it does not. Skylines stay RHD. I've seen a few here in LA.

I'm curious how come the Skyline never made it to the US? Also how much do skyline GTR's retail in Japan new?

They were close to $50,000 (in US dollars) for the GT-R. Production ended in 2002. Nissan probably never imported Skylines to the US because in 1989 they saw that 300ZX sales in the US weren't all that great. Plus there were heavy competitors like the Corvette, Supra, 3000GT/Dodge Stealth, and Mazda RX-7. Finally, none of the skyline's engines were imported to the USA via other Nissan cars... it'd probably be a pain to make those friendly to US emissions standards.
