..lower the price of everything? it makes sense to lower price of goods so that everyone has a fair chance to afford basic necessitities. companies would sell more, while keeping salaries low and stable. sounds like a win/win to me and and i don't even have a Harvard economics degree. thought?s

You guys already have it pretty cheap with regard to necessities of life.

i would trade it all to live in the high quality, serene lifestyle that NZ has to offer.
no joke.

Nobody's forcing you to stay in the US. But we have lower wages on average, the tech industry that most users on AT rely on isn't as well developed in New Zealand, food is more expensive, petrol is more expensive...

And we have Winston Peters.

Do you... Really... want to compare politicians? :colbert:

You absolutely cannot set price floors or price ceilings as it just results in shortages or surpluses.

Lowering the price of goods by law just leads to breadlines. The real price is higher, so there just isn't enough stocked as too many can afford the goods. Manufacturers are dissuaded from making food when they could be making something else that doesn't have a price ceiling. Massive, epic shortages.

So your "food for all plan" becomes "there's no food for anyone" in short order.

Wanna know a good way to lower the price of food? Make more food.

Its called debt. If you lower the price of houses what happens to all the people who have mortgages on houses that are now worth less?😕

It's okay. If you come to our country, even if you're one of those "immigrants" (he says it like James May says the word "Germans") Winston Peters probably wouldn't hate you. Unless you're Asian.

And under 65.

I'm just saying, it's not all honey and roses here.

The US government already heavily subsidises foodstuffs as a roundabout way to mandate lowered food prices.

well you know what lower prices bring? low wages. the problem is that things are too cheap in the first place (fast food, wal*mart goods)

Thoughts? There's a reason you don't have a Harvard economics degree.

no joke.

Grass is greener, etc., etc.

Also, when have price controls ever worked the way they were intended?
