Nobody's forcing you to stay in the US. But we have lower wages on average, the tech industry that most users on AT rely on isn't as well developed in New Zealand, food is more expensive, petrol is more expensive...

Lowering the price of goods by law just leads to breadlines. The real price is higher, so there just isn't enough stocked as too many can afford the goods. Manufacturers are dissuaded from making food when they could be making something else that doesn't have a price ceiling. Massive, epic shortages.

So your "food for all plan" becomes "there's no food for anyone" in short order.
