biltong bouquet (it's vaguely like jerky, but more tender, thicker and not smoked).
I just looked this up. There's been an African style of thin sliced air dried jerky that's been showing up in high end stores. I thought it might have been biltong, but I don't think it is. Can't remember what it's called.

Wikipedia had this to say on biltong...

The word biltong is from the Dutch bil ("buttock”") and tong ("strip" or "tongue").

"Honey, do you want some butt tongue for Valentine's day?"

"Uh... Maybe... I think so..."

I'm not sure what jerky-like African meat would show up in stores if not biltong, but wouldn't be surprised if there was something else. The main thing I know is that South Africans love biltong -- it's what you have alongside beer when you're watching a rugby or soccer match.

And yes, the name is silly, but trust me, it's much better than "butt tongue" implies. 😛
