Now if that X550 video card fixes the problem on the one running at 3610, that will be sweet !

At 11 minutes per frame I calculate it to be 4608 ppd!

I must admit, I never thought of trying that!:) What is the deadline for receiving bonus points for SMP WUs? Is it 2 or 3 days?

I was able to get my E4300 to run Ubuntu 64bit... I was having a problem with getting it to load with an X850XT card... I swapped it out with a 6800GT and got it to install. Now I just have to figure out how to get seti to run... at the moment it won't run under 64bit.

Could have gotten it more accurate if you had given the seconds too :p

Will Seti run if you install the 32bit libraries?:

sudo apt-get install ia32-libs

As time permits, I'll be switching the XP builds around and then I can put Ubuntu on the two X2s and have my regular stuff on the 2 Quads (until I sell the X2 boxes)

I am so glad I'll have this to use. THANK YOU BIODOC!

No problem Sid! Glad to help out!

When I installed ubuntu on my new quad (Gigabyte P35 chipset), I used an nvidia card I had laying around so I had to do the "no splash" delete. I did notice that it stalled on a loop looking for a floppy drive (fd0 probe or some such). Anyhow, I thought the live CD boot would fail so I walked away from it to get another . I came back 10 min later and it had kicked out of the loop and continued to boot!

Lesson?: give the live CD plenty of time to work through probing for hardware, etc.

I did also see that someone of at the 64bit ubuntu forum did get it installed on an X38 board.

Great News on the X38!

The X2s are on NF4 boards and I have had Ubuntu on each of them with their existing video, etc.... so I'm sure it will go OK.

I might give up some functionality on the HTPC machine (just during the race) and try it again there after I have the builds swapped. (Quads move to replace the X2s), but I am going to try and preserve the current WXP setups, so that takes some time and TLC. I don't know If I'll have that kind of time before the Holidays.

I need some help!

I installed a new video card in my Linux box and Linux can't recognize it. It's in a different PCIE slot than the dead one was.

I think I need to reconfigure X-Server somehow from the command line during boot, however, I don't have a clue.

I don't have experience with swapping VC's on linux but if you give me the manufacturer/model of the new VC, I can search the net for a solution.

If you're running ubuntu....to reconfigure for a new VC type:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

Then either reboot or type in:

sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart

No guarantees!!! I found this from a couple of sources on the net.

If you're running a diff version of linux, let me know and I can find the right commands.

See my post in the race thread complete with screen shot. 5063 PPD on my latest ubuntu box ! and 3000 on the other box (bad WU;s)

BTW, one box is using an ATI X550 and the other a nvidia 6200LE, both work fine with ubuntu, the X550 with the DQ6 (p35 chipset) and the 6200 LE with a S3 (p965 chipset)
