You can do the same thing (run very high in dx9) in vanilla Crysis as well. I didn't bother back when I played through it though, since I was running an X1900XT back then. You can also get something similar to very high for much less of a performance hit by enabling only the most noticeable commands, which will run a lot better than true very high but still look nearly as good. I remember trying this with the demo and averaging almost 40FPS on my 4850.

I remember messing with some configs that make the game look even better than regular very high as well, but that was relatively pointless for me since my GPU's not powerful enough.
