yes the DX10 penalty is still there. you can run Crysis on high, med or low in DX9 and get several more fps than running in DX10. of course in Warhead you can run even very high in DX9.

You can do the same thing (run very high in dx9) in vanilla Crysis as well. I didn't bother back when I played through it though, since I was running an X1900XT back then. You can also get something similar to very high for much less of a performance hit by enabling only the most noticeable commands, which will run a lot better than true very high but still look nearly as good. I remember trying this with the demo and averaging almost 40FPS on my 4850.
http://www.tweakguides.com/Crysis_13.html (scroll down to "very high on the cheap")

I remember messing with some configs that make the game look even better than regular very high as well, but that was relatively pointless for me since my GPU's not powerful enough.

yes I know that but I was just referring to the standard options for the game. I personally have DX9 custom config for both Crysis and Warhead.

That bitech review is old, Cat 9.7 improved the Crysis performance considerably in CPU limited areas, and Cat 9.8 improved the Crysis performance in Crossfire configurations. My LCD has a native low resolution of 1280x1024, but I was able to ran Crysis at such resolution in DX10 mode, with everything on Ultra High and 4x FSAA and I scored the following;

Min: 24
Max: 42
Ave:33

And is very enjoyable, Warhead runs considerably better.

Performance Improvements
Catalyst? 9.7 brings performance benefits in several cases where framerates are CPU limited.
Some measured examples are:
?? Crysis - performance at very high quality preset increases by up to 8% on HD4800 series
products
?? Lost Planet Colonies - performance increases by 7-11% when 8x Anti-Aliasing is used on
the HD4800 series products

Yeah, Crysis is a nice action-retarded shooter. 🙂 It's a masterpiece in graphics and sound, but it isn't very bright at everything else: you just shoot your way through everything and that is it. But somehow, I like it this way.

this shows a 48701gb getting just 23fps average and 12fps low at 1680 on DX10 very high but no AA. http://www.bit-tech.net/hardwa...0-vs-geforce-gtx-275/7

Besides what has been pointed out already, this game is pretty damn playable at an average of 23fps. There's just something about it that makes lower FPS more manageable. I'm not the only one who noticed this...many commented on it when the game was released. Now 13fps as a minimum id pretty low, but that was likely only for a few moments.

Was it the MoBlur? Movies are only 24fps...but they have MoBlur...

Did you run this bench on your HP L1965's native resolution? Or do you have another monitor?

Yeah, HP LP1965 native resolution is 1280x1024, there's a description of this monitor on the LCD sticky thread in this forum 🙂

I just did a wipe of my pc and reinstalled crysis myself. This is the first time I've played it on my 4890 and I'm using all very high settings and its playable even in the heavy combat portions of the game. I couldn't even think about doing this with my two 8800gts 512's in sli but the 4890 lets me get away with it and looks great the whole time.

I played through Crysis on a hd4890 with 2x AA at 1920x1200 without any noticeable issues. Game was pretty short but I guess it's fine for the clearance price I bought it at.

2x AA at 1920x1200 on DX10 very high settings?? that had to be noticeably slow at times not to mention almost impossible on the ice/snow and carrier levels.

Do you own a 4890 Toyota?

no but I know those levels are very rough compared to the rest of the game. and the rest of the game would be borderline playable at those settings according to every review of the card....

How old are those reviews? There has been 2-3 driver releases at least since the 4890 came out that each had Crysis performance improvements.

I played through Crysis about 3 months ago and I did update my drivers at the time. Didn't have any slow down issues playing through the stages with snow effects (escape from the ship down the mountain, and then defending the npc at the frozen marine camp) on my computer in my sig played at 1920x1200 and 2xAA.

As others pointed out, there have probably been a few optimizations for the Crysis engine since it first came out a few years ago.

you keep saying 1920x1200 and 2x AA but you never say what the rest is. so are you at DX10 very high settings or not??

Ugh, if Crysis was at all fun the first time through, I'd be jumping up and down.

I played them on Cat 9.6s for the first time, do the 9.8s really make that big a difference?

yea haha true. i decided to play warhead in devmode so i could play through with the TAC cannon and the PAX gun from the start, using infinite ammo, and the devmode has a built in FPS count. i avg like 23-25 and i play just fine. idk, i think it has to do with me playing everquest2 at 12-15fps for 4 years cause MMORPGs suck cpu like a hooker sucks C*ck

I think I just found a new addition to my sig...

no, it will be 2017 before that happens.

Seems that some users ignored the fact that Cat 9.7 brought performance improvements in Crysis which makes the game even more playable than before. . .

9.8 did the same for Crossfire. . .

. . .

yeah when I first got my 4870X2 running 9.2 drivers, crysis still wasn't playable at 1920, with alot of slow loading texture pop ins and massive dips in the frame rates. I just went back and tried it two weeks ago on the new 9.7 drivers after reading about its touted performance improvements on AT and suddenly it ran like a gem.
